Question about Acer Aspire 6930-6455 Notebook PC

1 Answer

I took this laptop apart to try and fix the sound jack and speakers, in the process of doing this I think I damaged a couple of pins on the flat ribbon cable with 12 pins that goes from the power button to the motherboard, however I reconnected the cable and found that the laptop power button still worked and also connected the ribbon cable to the media panel but the media touch panel buttons did not work when pressed but they were lit up. So I bought a new ribbon cable and connected that to the media touch panel and replaced the touch panel and attached it to the casing with one of the screws then when I turned the power on and pressed the media buttons I saw smoke coming from the ribbon cable from the media panel and it melted the cable. Could it be because the damaged pins in the power button ribbon cable? are they all linked together? what could have caused this smoke and melting of the cable to the media panel? laptop is working fine turning on and off with just the power button cable with the damaged pins connected but I cannot get the wireless to turn on without the media touch buttons it is really frustrating trying to solve this issue. Is those ribbon cables differs? I mean can I exchange power button ribbon cable to touchpad ribbon cable???

You might have inserted the ribbon backwards or on the wrong side.

the smoke means that you have a short circuit somewhere on your laptop double check the connections that you have made you might have to replace the flat ribbon make sure there is no dust at these connections you have to keep a computer free of dust/causes static electricity otherwise it can cause it to overheat and many other problems
hope this helps

I think I have broken my headphone jack on my sony vaio VGN-CS320J because headphones plugged into this jack do not work, unless held at a certain angle, otherwise sound continues to come from the laptop...

It might be the plug on the headphone that's bad - try it on another laptop. If it's the jack that's bad, then it will need to be taken apart and that's not easy to fix - recommend having a repair shop fix it.

You have possibly broken the switch, inside the units Phono Jack, this is a common thing, there is a little switch, in the Jack, that cuts OFF the Internal speakers, when used. Sometimes the ball on the end of the Plug can force the contacts too far apart and they don't make contact and cut off the internal speakers. This is a difficult fix, as the whole laptop must be disassembled, the part unsoldered, and another good part re-installed. As a cheap workarround, get an inexpensive USB soundcard, and some small external speakers. Otherwise it's off to the repair shop, or get yourself a service manual and do it yourself.

Headphone jack broken speakers wont work

Yes, since the Headphone pin is stuck in the Jack, you are not getting audio from Speakers.

You should have noticed that connecting the headphones to the Jack will block the audio coming from the Speakers and the same is the current situation.

You can either try removing the blocked part using a Tweaser or get it repaired.

HP DV4000 power problems

Hello:

This is a very common problem...in our shop we have replaced hundreds of power jacks.

I would recommend you send this in for service ASAP as it could cause further damage...even to your mainboard. The jack itself is about $5.00 but the labor can vary upto about $500.00

We charge a flat rate of $129.00 in one of our shops. Make sure whoever you have fix this has experience as your laptop will have to be taken completly apart and your main board removed.

Good luck myfriend.

Sound out of one speaker only

I think it's probably a damaged audio jack. If you're still in warranty, get it off to Apple. If not, you've got 3 choices;

1. Attempt to fix it yourself. I managed to get stereo again by opening the ipod up and inserting a staple in the bottom of the jack, to fit between the headphone and the ipod's audio input. This took some fiddling around, using tweezers, and will probably not last long if I take it out somewhere. I might attempt removing the audio jack and seeing if I can bend the metal connects for the right audio channel so they touch the headphone cable again. An alternative to this method would be to put some cardboard in the audio jack socket and adjusting it so that it brings the hardphones back into contact. Someone did this and posted the results on their blog, but I forgot the URL...

2. Buy a new audio jack and replace it yourself. There's an ipod repair wiki out there, and several of the replacement jack suppliers have detailed instructions. It's about 40 UK pounds for the replacement though....

3. Get someone to repair it. Expensive, about 60 quid, but perhaps worth it if you're scared of further damaging your precious beast.

Note though that there have also been issues with software updates and audio output, search the apple discussion boards for more details...

Compaq Presario 900 power cord connection problem

I've fixed a couple and finally resorted to using a cable retention device like the one in this video to stop the constant tugging and jerking that seems to cause the failures. PS the design of the pins/sockets is really shabby.

Laptop speakers stopped working

Hello fadesit, It sounds like the headphone socket is sticking/defective. When you insert the jack into the socket a contact is broken to disable the external speakers, when you remove the jack the connection is resumed. Due to the amount of work this will take and the possibility of causing other problems in the process I would check to see if the warranty is still in effect first. If not then the next thing to ask is do you have the tools, mechanical aptitude, patience and ability to risk damaging your laptop to do this yourself? If you want to go the do it yourself route let me know and I?ll post some disassembly instructions later tonight otherwise please don?t forget to rate the posting.
