Back to basics I'm afraid. Trial and error!
1. Switch off both puta (Computer) & printer.
2. Restart puta. When startup completed, click start/Devices & Printers. Check that it is the "Default Printer, if not click drop down and click "Default".
3.Make sure printer cable is located and secured properly to printer and puta?.
4. Switch on Printer. Complete startup/setup. When ready to print, choose an item to print from your Docs saved.
5. If this fails to rectify, save yourself agro and to reinstall puta printer prog afresh.
Personally I go straight HP and download latest version of my printer prog.
Suggest you access HP.com and download the latest version, with luck it will be latest version, so not tomany updates to download.
