Clean the scanner glass. This is the smaller piece of glass that is located just to the left of the large original glass. Or if you have an older or smaller model Brother the strip of glass is going to be located under/inside of the port where your documents are fed into the machine. This operation panel usualy just pops open and you can find the strip of glass inside. Just clean it with a bit of glass cleaner that has been sprayed on a soft cloth. Make a copy with the machine to test if the line is gone. If the copy mode comes out ok then your outgoing faxes will be ok. You can also make a copy before you start the cleaning process as the copy with the line on it can aid you in determining what area the glass needs to be cleaned.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

I have a blank line running down the left side of all my faxes and copies. I have changed the toner and installed a new drum. Still having the problem.

You most likely have toner on the roller, which should be just above or below the drum, clean this by spraying some window cleaner on a paper towel, or lintless rag, and rubbing the roller clean, make sure to get all foreign particles of roller before closing and trying to print.

Have black smudge line in middle of paper have new toner and drum

Try taking out your toners, and on the drum you will see a green button which you can slide from side to side (it's on each of the colored slots). Make sure you put the the white plastic cover up and then it will slide. I hope this will help you.

Bold black lines across the paper when printing, scan or copy not on faxing

I realise this is probably too late for you Janet and you will have bought a new drum unit by now or replaced the printer! The three lines appeared on my print-out from a new drum I installed and after investigation it transpired that there was some toner residue that had dried on the drum (from testing at manufacture stage probably) and reprinted three bold lines on a sheet of A4. The solution is to use a soft piece of cloth and rub the lines off the drum through the gap at the front of the drum unit. The drum can be rotated by turning the gear cog on the side, then once the reside has been removed from the drum and it is clean, the lines will have disappeared. I wouldn't use any solution on the drum, just gentle rubbing should suffice.

Black vertical lines issues on Samsung multifunction fax SF

Black lines are usually a sign that you have toner on the laser slip glass which is usually situated above the drum unit, its just a little bit of glass if u give this a wipe and get toner on ur finger or rag then thats probably what wrong. If you don't I would look at your drum unit as it might not be cleaning correctly, which would mean getting a new one.
Hope you find this info helpful. Cheers

POOR COPY QUALITY

Here is the scoop! There are two (2) components to the fax machine, one is the scanner portion which is located just past where the paper you are copying or faxing enters the machine, separate the two sides and access the imaging plate, clean this area with denatured alcohol.
Step two is to clean the toner and drum unit, get the mirror at the back of the toner and under the toner. If after this you are still getting lines on the prints you will have to replace the drum unit KX FA-84 about $85. Happy faxing, Ken

Right side of faxes (or copies) have 1-1/2" black line

Try changing the Drum Unit again....it cannot be anything else besides a worn out drum cleaning blade.

Poor Print quality - black lines appear on page

If you see black lines on the drum, it is very likely that the drum unit is bad. Replace the drum unit and rest the drum counter. If you wait too long, you will cause toner build up in the fuser and will cost yourself several hundred dollars to get it replaced. More in labor than parts.

Use a soft cotton or very soft paper towel and wipe the excess toner from the drun. If there are lines worn in the surface of the drum, then replace it ASAP.

BLACK INK LINES ON INCOMING FAXES KX-FL511

It's time to change NEW DRUM UNIT..and that's why your Toner will Not Last Longer because unnecessary toner (the black lines) will be on the copy every time the fax comes or you make a copy.
