There are mainly three motors for most of the DVD players. One to spin the disc we insert in, other to load the laser pickup unit to-and-fro inside it to read the disc and an other one to load the tray mechanism 'in-out'. According to your description, the disc spins inside, and you can hear its spin. So motor which spins the disc has no trouble at all I should say. Then comes to the second motor that moves the laser assembly inside it. If it do not work, the laser pickup unit won't move and no reading will take place and 'No Disc' display will be the result. The last chance is with Laser Pickup Unit itself. Just get this unit repaired by any well experienced service technician or by the authorised service center, because, there are special tools to open this unit. As it is a compactable one, more care should be given to it while repairing. Suspect the second motor I described earlier, and the Laser Pickup Unit. OK.

No it isn't, because your switch isn't tripping when you close the DVD. Try holding the lid down with your hand and listen for spin. If your DVD starts spinning you will need to locate the plastic pin protruding from your lid and extend it with superglue and a piece of cardboard. This will make up for the warp in your lid, and allow the switch to close.

The CD motor could be faulty if you cannot hear any spinning noises from it from it loading or the lens could be faulty resulting in not enabling the dvd to register its prescence in the player to spin the disk.

Try cleaning the lens with a DVD Disc Cleaner or Methylated Spirit and a Q-tip, rub the lens slowly in a clockwise motion, leave to dry and put in a DVD, if it doesnt work try a CD but make sure they dont have any scratches or dust on them, if a CD works ( or not ) then your lens is knackered.
