The hinges appear to be broken or off track, couldn't pop it back into place, but now the screen just flops back and forth. Bought it August 2005

Mine does the same thing! lol although i can see where the hinge in coming apart when i close the laptop. I got mine in February 2006 so its almost 3 years old. The letters q,w,e,r,u,i,o, and p quit working on my keyboard one day so i've had to use the on-screen keyboard =/ maybe time to get it serviced...

Same exact problem with my zv600. Same hinge as the picture, only i can force the gap closed with my fingers. Thinkin about closing the gap and "welding" it with a good glue. opposite hinge is like new.

I have the same problem as well with my Pavilion, but don't want to have to use a stand or prop it up. So...looks like I will be searching for a hinge. Just on the left side.

I have a HP Pavilion zv6000 laptop too, and I have the same problem. A year ago, the screen was getting loose and finally it just broke. Won't stand up. I've been propping it up against a wall for a year. I can see what is wrong: my laptop has gotten so hot that the back of the laptop where the hinges are has warped and ruined the hinges. Do you notice that? The split in the seem and the actual bend of the plastic? Anyway, the computer itself works perfectly. I was going to buy new hinges and replace them myself, but it was too much of a hassle, and I needed a new laptop anyway. The hinges are inexpensive. And the laptop isn't TOO difficult to take apart (search for the manual. it's easy to find). I took it apart with my Grandpa, and he's old, and I'm a girl. (okay, sexist, gender...ist.) I actually received a new laptop as a gift. Luckily. No solution, other than replacing hinges. I just wanted to let people know I too had the same problem.

Hinges needs replacement.

If you are a person who thinks you can do this go to ebay and find the exact parts (hinges) for your laptop and find the service manual to open it up and replace them. If you aren't teckie enough find a computer professional to do this. Very time consuming to open the laptop to replace 2 simple parts.

I built a simple stand that holds the back up. I have been using it for over a year and it works
fine. Also saves a lot of money.
I can build one for $10 plus shipping.

My screen won't stay open. i think the hinges are broken

Hi. The hinges are either broken or worn out. It is possible to replace them but it can be difficult to find them. I recommend calling around to a few local repair shops as they may have an old one of your model that they are using for parts. Here is a link that shows you how to replace a hinge http://www.insidemylaptop.com/repair-replace-broken-hinges-hp-pavilion-dv9000-notebook/

The hinges on my zv6000 laptop broke and the top won't stay open

First, remove the bezel that is between the F keys on the keyboard and the monitor. There may be a couple of little screws from the back to allow you to remove the hinge cover. Once this is out, you see that there are 2 screws on each hinge that will have to be removed. After you have had all that fun, you will have to take the monitor apart by removing the screw covers that are between the glass and the edge of the monitor, then you will be able to separate the bezel, which is around the glass, from the back cover of the monitor. Walla, the hinge supports will all of a sudden appear, and you can remove them. Re-assemble in just the reverse.

Don't misplace any of the screws, and have a lot of fun.

Good luck, and feel free to rate this response.

the left hinge is where the wires and switch is that turns on your monitor. Take it to a computer repair shop, you might not like this but they may suggest a new screen but not seeing how its damage, maybe you just severed a wire....

Hinges on Pavilion zv5000

Hinges are 2 seperate pieces that are attached to your LCD screen and then attached to the base of your laptop. I wouldn't be surprise that $160 is the repair cost. Hope this includes labour cost cuz its time consuming to open the laptop and take it about just to replace them.

You do this yourself by finding the same hinges on ebay and doing it yourself if you feel comfortable. If not leave it to a computer nerd who know how to.
