I have a transcend jetflash elite 4GB, the problem is, when i'm copying a large file or folders with a size of 2-3GB, at first it seems normal, the copying process completes, safely remove works fine but when you insert it again and check the files these weird things happen, some folders are empty, file names have changed to symbols and a syntax failure on the drive making a real mess on the files.. can anyone help me with this..

I would probably try formatting the usb to ntfs as the old default fat32 format has issues with larger files, if that still doesn't work the usb is probably faulty and needs replacing.

hope that helps,

SOURCE: Transcend JetFlash V60 16GB pen drive is write protected

Flash drives by default use the FAT32 file system. FAT32 has a limit of 4gb per file. So you could have four 4gb files on your pen drive, but no files bigger than about 4gb. You could use the NTFS format, but it's not suggested for flash drives since it reads/writes much more often than FAT and will make the drive lifetime MUCH shorter.

Testimonial: "It is not 4GB per file ! The 16GB Transcend pen drive is accepting only files upto 3.71 GB only. After reaching 3.71 GB it gives a message. "

SOURCE: Transcend JetFlash V60 16 GB Pen Drive not working properly

Sometimes when a flash memory stick fails because it was not removed from the USB port properly. If the device is removed by just pulling it out of the USB port, it can cause the flash device to fail, you must click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon on the Task Bar and select the device you wish to remove and only do so when instructed to do so.
When the flash memory device appears to malfunction it maybe possible to restore it by reformatting it. Insert the flash drive into the USB port then Click on Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Disk Management.
Then right click on Disk 1 removable drive and click Format. After the flash drive has been formatted it will indicate that its Healthy.

You need to format the external drive. Format the drive as primary drive and in FAT32.
Insert the external hard drive into the USB port then Click on Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Disk Management.
Then right click on Disk 1 removable drive and click Format. After the flash drive has been formatted it will indicate that its Health

SOURCE: Hi I have a transcend

The message which you are facing while formatting your flash drive maybe be due to below reasons.
1) It could be due to virus. Try to scan your flash drive with your anti-virus and check.
2) Second reason would be when you connecting your flash drive it may include some autorun files which starts its own when you connect your flash drive and because that file is running it wont allow to be formatted, so try to delete all the files including in your flash drive and than try formatting.
or
There is right protect switch on many pen drives , a physical write protect switch which enables you to either allow writing on the disk or disallow writing on the disk.

All you need to do is toggle the right protect switch and you would be able to write files on your pen drive.

I have a transcend 4gb pendrive. Can I able to set a pasword for it. Any utility is available to protect my pendrive?

Hi Vgvimalgouta,

To protect your Pen Drive , Please follow the below steps :-

  1. Physical Security is the best security in case of Pen Drive, I would say keep the Pen Drive out of reach of anyone but you.
  2. Make sure that you keep only the data that you have already encrypted , if it's very confidential, for e.g. password protect your files and folders into one zip/rar archive , so that even if someone get's your pendrive , he would not be able to have access to your files and folders.
  3. There are many paid software for protecting files and folders, However I know of a Free application that can help you out.
  4. The free Application is Remora USB Disk Guard , You can download the application from this link -- http://bit.ly/moVnDu
Hope this helps ..:) Your feedback would be appreciated.

I can't transfer file larger than 4GB on my transcend 16GB but i can transfer different files less than 4 GB if the sum does not exceed 16GB

If your device uses the FAT32 file system, 4GB (minus 1 byte) is the maximum file size supported. It's simply a limitation of the file system.

I am having Jetflash v10 16 gb model 'Transcend' USB Flash Drive.

Dear Friend,

My Jetflash also writeprotected, there's no any solution for this in internet but I could solve this problem,

what you can do is, make your write protected drive "shared", that means go to my computer---> then rigtclick on flash drive---> click sharing & security---> check both "share this folder on network" & "allow users to change my files" ,apply setting then you'll be able to format your drive.

I could do it,
let others to know about this solution. Because I also suffered from this problem.

Hello Kannan,

Download usbstor.inf and usbstor.pnf files and copy them to

C: windowsinf folder.
(click yes to overwrite the files if windows asks)
usbstor.inf and usbstor.pnf can be downloaded from here:

http://www.infdump.com/download-inf-files_new.php/inffiles/U/USBSTOR.INF/5.1.2600.0/download.html

http://www.pnfdump.com/download-pnf-files.php/pnffiles/U/usbstor.PNF/download.html

Remove the USB Mass Storage Device from the Device Manager (Start -> Run then type devmgmt.msc  and press Enter)

Insert the USB drive and lo and behold! It should be recognized in a jify!

Download copy JFSW.exe for JetFlash elite

Hi,
Driver Installation – Windows® Me, 2000, XP and Vista
No drivers are required. Newer Windows operating systems have built-in drivers that support the JetFlash®. Simply plug your JetFlash® into an available USB port and Windows will automatically install the files needed to use your device. A “Removable Disk” with a newly assigned drive letter will appear in the My Computer window.

JFSW.exe is the older version. You might want to try JetFlash Elite v2.0, a newer more advanced version of JetFlash elite - highly recommended:

I think you know about this page, but here's a link to save you googling:
