Use the RINGS TO ANSWER switch on the back of the base to set the number of times you want the phone to ring before the answering system answers the call. You may choose 3 rings, 5 rings, or TOLL SAVER (TS).

I have an officejet 6500 all in one printer and I am setting up the fax section. It sends and recieve OK but my answering machine is picking up before the fax machine. How can I change that around so the...

You need to check the setup ..

The telephone line which is coming from out should be connected to the line 1 of the printer and Telephone answering machine should be connected to Line 2 .

2. You also need to check that after how many rings the Telephone answering machine answers the call you have to keep the "Rings to answer" 2 less than that of Telephone answering machine.

Lets assume that your Telephone Answering Machine answers the call after 4 rings then keep the rings to answer in All in One to 2

How to set Rings to Answer

1. Press the Setup button on the Front panel of the printer

2. Scroll Down and go to Basic Fax Setup - Select it

3. Scroll down and got to - Rings to Answer - Select it

4. Set the Rings here and then try Fax

it will fix the problem :)

How do you set up the Fax to take incoming calls after an answering machine answers

You need to set the answer machine to one more ring before answering, so that it doesn't answer before the fax. If the fax is set for 3 rings, set the answer machine to 4 rings before answering.

I need to set the rings

Rings to Answer:

THIS SETTING ALLOWS YOU TO SELECT THE NUMBER OF RINGS BEFORE THE UNIT ANSWERS A CALL.

1. The unit announces, "Rings to Answer (the current rings to answer setting). To set rings to answer press NEXT. Press SET to continue.

2. To chantge the rings to answer, press and relase the NEXt OR GREETING/PREVIOUS button and the unit announces a number, such as "2,3,4," or "2, toll saver, 5."

3. After choosing a number, press and release the STOP/SET button to store the rings to answer. The unit confirms the setting and enters Message Length menu.

I can't figure out how to set up my fax machine so it won't mess up my phone and answering machine either.

Telephone wire goes to fax, out to answer machine, Important to set fax on answer machine mode and set the ring count to pick up AFTER the telephone answer machine. Set fax ring count to 5 rings, and answering machine to 3 or 4. When some one calls answer machine or you pick up first, then if no one will leave a msg. fax tones are different than voice tones, they are called CNG tones. Most new fax machine will sense this and if a fax will go to fax only. Ring count is the key. Also you could set fax up for maual mode and would not jump to anser machine or fax till you want.....good luck

How can I change the Rings to Answer setting to one ring?

Set the number of rings before answering
If you turn on the Auto Answer setting, you can specify how many rings occur before
incoming calls are automatically answered.
The Rings to Answer setting is important if you have an answering machine on the
same phone line as the device, because you want the answering machine to answer
the phone before the device does. The number of rings to answer for the device
should be greater than the number of rings to answer for the answering machine.
For example, set your answering machine to a low number of rings and the device to
answer in the maximum number of rings. (The maximum number of rings varies by
country/region.) In this setup, the answering machine answers the call and the device
monitors the line. If the device detects fax tones, it receives the fax. If the call is a
voice call, the answering machine records the incoming message.
To set the number of rings before answering via the control panel
1.
Press Setup.
2. Press Basic Fax Setup, and then press Rings to Answer.
3. Enter the appropriate number of rings by using the keypad, or press the left or right
arrow button to change the number of rings.
4. Press OK to accept the setting.
