Question about LG LHD45EL Dehumidifier

1 Answer

The dehumidifier runs, cycles on and off, but there is almost no water in the receptacle. I haven't had to empty it since it started cycling on & off this season. I usually have to empty it at LEAST weekly.

You may have the humidity setting to high. Try lowering it to 45%. Or if yours doesn't have an LED Screen, set it for minimum. Also, check and clean the air intake filter, if you haven't already. Keep in mind, most dehumidifiers have a fan that may seem to run constantly, but the compressor doesn't turn ON. The fan is circulating air, in a effort to detect humidity levels that are higher than what you have the humidity removal set on.

Hope this helped you.

Haier 45-pint dehumidifier unit cannot be turned on. It has been running fine last few days.

The first thing that comes to mind, is have you emptied the water collection bucket recently? If so, be sure that the bucket was properly reinstalled and is making contact with the bucket safety removal switch.

If you haven't emptied the bucket in the past few days, it may simply be full and will not start until it's emptied.

Hope this helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

Is there any way to run automatically. . . where when it reaches humid per cent it shuts off? Can you rig to run for x hrs. per day and then shut off and restart the next day?

Norman, once the unit reaches the extraction level you have it set for, the unit will turn OFF automatically. However, depending on the humidity level in your home, it may take several cycles of running and emptying the bucket until it reached. After that, it should turn OFF, once the level is reached. Then when the humidity level rises above the setting it's on, it will start up again.

Since your unit is a Manually Controlled unit, there's no safe way to "rig' it to run on with a timer. The plug in wall timers are not rated high enough to handle the load of the dehumidifiers operation. Trying to use one, would fry the timer and possibly the dehumidifier.

If you want all the features you mentioned, you will need to purchase a new electronically controlled dehumidifier.

When running it will cycle and dim lights. Sounds like it bogging down. Is this a thermostat issue?

When you say, "Dimming the lights"-- are you talking about the lights on the unit?- or on the House wiring circuit?
Tell me more about what else is running on this circuit?-- Like another fan-- or several lights?

Tell me more about your term: "Sounds like it is bogging down"-- Was the unit reunning fine, and THEN started to Bog Down?-- Or does it bog down right from the starting up on the unit?

Can you read the name plate on the unit?-- How many amps does it draw?
Are you running it right from a receptacle?--- or from an extension cord?-
is the cord a nice heavy duty cord?
It sounds like you are not giving the unit sufficient amps for the work it needs to do.

Tell me more-- let's see if we can fix this dehumidifier! :-)

Motor runs, but dehumidifier does not collect water

Keep in mind, that a dehumidifier only draws humidity from the air, if the level of humidity is higher than what the controls are set on. The fan running, may be the automatic defrost cycle, that defrost the coils, if they become frosted over. The defrost cycle, depending on the unit and how is was designed, can last any where from 15 minutes up to 45 minutes.

Also, a dirty air intake filter makes the unit strain to keep up and can't take in moisture as it should. So, if you haven't cleaned the filter on a regular basis, not is the time to do so. And while your at it, clean the cooling coils too.

The easiest and best way to test a dehumidifier at home, to see if it's working properly. Is to place it in the bathroom and turn the shower ON and don't operate the bathroom's exhaust fan. Set the humidity level low (45%), turn the unit ON and close the door when you leave. Wait 30 to 40 minutes and check the water collection bucket. If there's water in it, it's working as it should.

Hope this helped you to solve the problem. Please let me know.
