Hello
Your HR-33U has video casette recording facilty. No disc burning facilty. DVDs can only be played, and if you want, you can copy them to video casette tape. OK.

Greetings Lightfingers - Your unit is only capable of viewing DVDs and has no capability for burning DVD's

If you would like to burn DVDs you can buy a burner for a PC for about $20-25 USD at a place like newegg.com.

Dvd pixilating and skipping about an hour and a half into disc

Use a dvd cleaner and then try the movies. Hope this helps.
