That a mechanical problem.. Indeed, you'd better replace the key cylinder with a new one

Have cylinder body stuck in cradle can not remove it

If you rotate it back as much as possible toward the start position (the slot with the dot), then insert the tip of a kwikset key and give it a small twist clockwise or counter, it should be able to rotate back to start and you can remove the cylinder. I rekeyed 3 in a row no problem and had the last one jam up. I successfully restarted 3 times, but couldn't get it to complete the rekey.

Lost instructions to relock my weiserlock smartkey set... I have the small key to insert and another set of keys but don't know the procedure. Please help, Kim

if you want to program a new key to the lock ( rekey ) --- first, take your old key and put it into the lock, turn the key 1/4 turn clockwise, now take your little rekey tool and put into the small hole that is next to the key hole -- push hard, now remove the tool and then WITHOUT turning the key remove the key from the lock, now insert the new key into the lock and turn the key 1/4 turn counter clockwise --- the lock will now remember that key and the old key should not work.

I have a tenant that rekeyed our smart key lock and now I can not get into the building. I can no longer get in touch with the tenant. How can i rekey the lock without the entry key? My name is Dave...

if you do not have the learned key that works the lock you will need to take the lock to a locksmith that has the reset tool and they can re-learn a new key to the lock.
while at the locksmith shop - have them show you the correct way to re-learn more keys for the future -- and it is very important that you keep a working key for the lock so if the future tenants do not return keys to you, you will be able to re-key to a new key. ( you will need the special tool that fits into the little hole in the cylinder face -- get this tool from the lock shop, they should have plenty ).

Lost my key, is the code for the original key on the lock anywhere

I am not sure about this model or the age of your lock but some of the locks have a rekeying. You also might be able to replace the round part that you installed wnen you first got the lock and you would have 2 new keys. Call the company.

Why will the key to my 97 Explorer work on the back door and not on the driver and passenger door? Is their another key that I am suppose to have?

unless your explorer was keyed alike (was requested that 1 key fits all) the only way to address this issue is to 1 try using liquid graphite (lock oil) in the locks 2 have a lock smith look at it and correct the problem or 3 (if you are handy) take the locks out and have the door locks rekeyed to to a new code, or rekeyed to work with your original key.
If you had bought this car used alot of time dealers will buy cars at auction that where repoed and the cars locks where rekeyed to work

I have Kwickset door knobs on my outside doors. I

Hi,
The instructions they send are almost always generic and cover more than one subject.
If you insert the key and turn it all the way clockwise, you should be able to insert the tool tip they sent you into the hole on the shank part of the handle. Pull straight out and it should come off. Some times it takes several attempts to do.
Next turn key counter clockwise back to starting position and remove key. Dump lock out of handle, paying attention to orientation. Turn lock 180 degrees and reinsert back into handle. Put lock and handle back on to door and reinsert the key. Turn key clockwise and push.... remove key.

Hope this Helps,

Key won't turn deadbolt

Try using your smartkey to "rekey" the lock to the original key... there's really no reason to buy the smartkey system unless you change locks alot... they are meant for the apartment industry more than anything I believe... in any case, the smartkey system allows you to rekey the lock without removing it from the door... so, use the original key and use the smartkey to rekey it or select a different cut and key it to that key... should solve your problem.

Last resort... take it back to HD for replacement.

I bought 2 kwikset deadbolts. The first one worked out fine. The second one I turn the original key by accident. Now neither key will work.Is there a way to rekey my original key.

put the 'dummy key' that came in with it, turn it a 1/4 turn right, put smart key in, pull out smart key. pull out the key and insert the key that you would have as a desired key and turn left 1/4. thats it!!!!!!
