What would a "rumble strip" sound like? Squeaking, metal clanking against metal? Trailblazers have lots of noises that are a nuisance, and I've fixed most of them.

I don't know how exactly to explain it. Rumble strips are those grooved pavement areas on the sides of highways and if you run them over, it makes a loud noise under your tires and your whole vehicle shakes. I brought the car in for service over the weekend and they replaced a front wheel bearing and repaired a front caliper on the opposite side. But then Sunday, the car started doing the same thing.

Did it make this sound before you brought the TB in for repair? That sound is not normal and is not common like all the other "sounds" you hear from these. The only thing that comes to mind would be one of the calipers sticking, causing it to shake. Is it constant until you press on the brake? Sorry you had to replace the wheel bearing, expensive little buggers.

Yes, that's why I brought it in, in addition to the scraping noise I would here when I turned the wheel to the right. (I hear ya, I just spent over 500 that I didn't have to begin with but I"m 8 months pregnant and have a 14month old so I want them to be safe.)

The shop you brought it to said the caliper and wheel bearing was causing the sound?

  • Anonymous May 09, 2011

They said they had to replace the left front wheel bearing, , they cleaned and lubed the right front caliper, and cut back some piece of "tin" from the back right that was rubbing.

Scraping noise is probably gone now right? How many miles are on it?

What's going through my mind now, the shop should of checked these items, but you never know........ Alignment issues, tires being unbalanced, wheels could be bent or warped, upper ball joint is worn, outter tie rod ends are shot, control arm bushings worn. With that being, you went in this shop to fix a problem. The problem is not fixed, they just replaced parts costing you more $ that we all don't have. I would take it back to the shop and tell them your problem still exists and I've paid for parts that didn't take care of the problem.

Intermittent rumbling sound in transmission at ~30 mph when going uphill and easing up a little on the gas. very much like driving over a rumble strip on the highway like they put in front of toll booths....

Do you have the problem when you turn on the car as well? I had this same problem, turns out the alternator was going bad. A few months later the alternator went. After the alternator was replaced, the problem went away.

For the past day, intermittently when I hit the brakes, it sounds like Im driving over a rumble strip found on the highways. It happens in the front, as far as I can tell, and its fairly loud. Ive looked...

are the tires showing steel ...could possibly be the bolts have loosened up on the brakes or the pads need replacing , could even be a wheel bearing you should have it look at or inspect it yourself for the obvious wear n tear things and i would jack it up and use jack stands for safety and see if the tires wiggle back n forth or up n down if so then its possibly a bearing or wheel joint
