Question about HP Photosmart C7180 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

Frequently changes its status to offline; have wireless connection

Having discovered that the Photosmart has changed its status to offline, I remove the tick by 'use printer offline' in the Properties window. However, the device still fails to accept instructions from the computer either to print or scan until I re-install it. Should be very grateful for advice please!

I have an HP Photosmart C7280 Printer wireless connected. The Pause Printer and Use Printer Offline are always checked on. How do I change the default status on these 2 items to default off. Whenever I...

To change the default printer settings or to restore the settings in your printer, click on the start menu, select Settings, and then select "Printers" from the menu that appears. After that you could right-click the printer that you would like to change settings for, and then select "Properties" from the menu that appears. This would open up a tabbed window that would display many settings that you can change. You could change the settings you need to change or there is another option that you would find to restore to defaults, this would allow you to set the default settings on your printer.

Can't print because of Error-offline status.

I found out that the IP address on the printer was different from the IP address that was available when the printer was first installed. After spending days trying to fix this, it was resolved in less than two minutes.
Go to the Printer Folder in the control panal and choose to Add a Printer. You will see the option to add the new printer ( wireless). Chose to install, and it will install the printer under the new IP address. It worked instantaneoulsy.

You also need to make sure the IP address is inputted into the printer ( check your guide for how to input the IP address)

What I dont know how to do is to keep the IP address static. Afger, it is not practical to do this each time it changes. If only the last digit changes, it may be as easy as switching to the printer available under the current IP address.

HP Photosmart C6180 goes Offline in Vista

Solution A:

Download and install this Critical Update for your printer directly from HP.

Solution B:

There have been cases where if the PC is turned off or goes into hibernate this can occur. To work around this issue the "HP CUE DeviceDescovery Service" must be disabled:

1) Click on the "Start Menu" icon on the bottom left corner of the screen, type "services.msc" in the "Start Search" edit box, and hit enter. This will trigger Vista to pop-up a "User Account Control" dialog to prompt for permission to continue. Click "Continue" to allow Vista to open the Services management console application.

2) The Services management console application is made up of 2 panels. The right panel contains a list of all services available on the system. Scroll thru this list and look for a service called "HP CUE DeviceDiscovery Service".

3) Right-click on "HP CUE DeviceDiscovery Service" and select "Properties" to open the "HP CUE DeviceDiscovery Service Properties" dialog.

4) From the "HP CUE DeviceDiscovery Service Properties" dialog, click on the "General" tab. If the "Service status" shows that the service has started, click on the "Stop" button to force the service to stop.

5) Change the "Start type" to "Disabled" and click on the "OK" button on the bottom of the dialog to apply the changes.

Solution C:

1. Set the printer to a static IP address
2. Logon to the machine as the administrator or with admin rights.
3. Remove/Reinstall the printer using the IP address

Did you ever get your C6180 Offline Problem fixed?

Hi Kirk,

After a lot of trawling though various sites and a bit of open interpretation from a few suggestions I did find a solution to this problem that has fixed the issue.

To correct this issue you need to turn off SNMP on the printers port. To do this follow these steps:
1) Open the Printers item in Control Panel.
2) Click on the printer that is having the issue, HP C6180 in my case.
3) Right click on the printer and select Properties from the pop-up menu.
4) Select the Ports tab and click/highlight on port listed with a tick next to it, mine is HPC1680 but can be listed as your printers name or IP and depending on the number of re-installs sometimes with a '_1' after it.
5) Click the Configure Port button.
6) Un-tick the SNMP Status Enabled option.
7) Click OK and Save to all the windows.
8) Reboot (just to make sure!)

I found that this has completely resolved this problem on 4 machines running various versions of Vista (Home Premium, Business & Ultimate). 3 of the 4 machines have had no other issues but one of them has a slightly diffeent problem now where sometimes large prints form Word will freeze and end up erroring. Not sure how much this is word having an issue though.

Hope this sorts your problem out as well.

Cheers,

Adrian

Photosmart 2575 printer is offline - won't print

In Vista make sure you are logged in as a administrator whenever you make any changes.

And if not to bring the printer online you will have to right click on the printer icon and right click on Run as administrator> and then try bringing the printer online and checdk if it works.

And you can delete the Microsoft XPS Document writer it is a default printer icon installed if in case you did not have a printer installed you can store them to print later.
Now that you already have a printer you can delete the Microsoft XPS Document writer.

Good Luck

Photosmart 2575 printer is offline - won't print

Good Day,

One thing you can try instead of deleting the doucment writer is to change the default printer. You can do this by right-clicking on the HP printer icon and selecting "set as default" from the drop down box. Also try turning the printer off and back on aswell as restaring the computer if you have'nt already. Did that printer ever work from that computer? How is it wired, by "switcher" do you mean a shared printer through you network(was printer sharing configured properly), or an A-B printer switch. Please clarify

Hope this helps for now

How to change "offline" status to "online"

Assuming you are on a PC:
Go to your control panel in Windows, open the printers box, choose your printer by double clicking on it, then click on 'printer' on the left edge of that window. Scroll your mouse down to where it says 'use printer offline' and uncheck that option. This should release any documents you have waiting in the queue.

you will also need to check your manual on how to set its sleep function, as some printers like to go to sleep really quickly - and that causes Windows to think it is offline.
