John Deere LA125 riding mower, three years old, 84 hours, Briggs 21 hp engine. I mowed the lawn. I cleaned the machine with a water hose. Now, IF it starts it will die after about 10 seconds. I took the fuel filter off - it looks good and I can blow through it in both directions so I put it back on. When I take the filter off fuel runs out of the fuel line, so that seems not to be the problem. Spark plug is fine, gapped at .030. Air filter is fine. I took the fuel pump line off at the oil dipstick port and it pumps pressure so I guess that's ok. I had this same problem about 10 days ago. I took the fuel pump lines off and removed the cover from the top of the engine. All the lines are clear and open. When I put the fuel pump back on I installed two lines on the wrong ports. I had the John Deere dealer pick it up and fix that problem. They could not find anything else wrong. The machine was returned and I mowed with it twice - this time the same condition showed up again. It acts like a fuel starvation problem.

Bingo! No power to the solenoid. Intermittent open between the cable plug and the solenoid. I traced it to an oxidized pin in the solenoid side of the plug. I pulled the pin, cleaned it out and then discovered that it fit entirely too loose. I tightened the female pin. Shebang! All appears ok, the engine starts with no problem. I potted the plug with plumbers putty and wrapped it in vinyl electrical tape.

Hi, the fuel shut off solenoid in the bottom if the carby is the most likely cause. It should click when you turn the key on and off. If it does not click check you have voltage to it with the key on. If so replace the solenoid. Regards Phil.

GOOD MORNING, I HAVE A D140 JOHN DEERE LAWN MOW,IT RUN WELL WHEN NOT MOWING BUT WHEN ENGAGED IT SLOW DOWN AS THOUGH IT HAS TO CATCH IT'S BREATH LESS THAN THREE YEARS OLD

Make sure there isn't anything binding the deck belt or blades. Check the spindles for free movenent. If all that is good then it might be the linkage that is supposed to adjust the throttle when the engine is under load or it might be a carb issue...especially if you run ethanol gas in it.

Why wont my John Deere D130 will not stay running

You know the old adage, Keep it simple, lol.

I was mowing along on my LA145, which had about 200 hours on it, and it slowed down then died. Before it died, it was acting like it was losing power. It felt like it was only firing on one cylinder. I waited a bit and it restarted after a lot of cranking. I made a couple mowing passes, and then the same thing happened.

Because I have mowed commercially for many years, I know my equipment inside and out. This mower was in top running condition and should not have been acting this way. There were no engine misses, no backfires and it was not normally hard to start. I knew the carburetor was clean, the coils were good, and the plugs were new. The fuel filter was recently changed. I got off, lifted the hood and gave a general inspection of the engine compartment. I noticed the fuel filter was nearly empty. I pulled the hose off the tank side of the filter and saw there was no flow.

The gas should gravity flow from the tank to the filter, if the tank has a good supply of fuel. Not that I recommend this practice, but I have no problem with doing it myself....I wiped the hose off and blew air back into the fuel tank. It helps to take the gas tank lid off first. After I got a good flow of air going back into the tank (it required several lungs full of air, you can hear the bubbles) the fuel began to gravity flow back through the hose at a decent clip. This fixed the problem. There is likely silt build up in the tank and it settles at the output port blocking the flow of fuel.

The problem repeated itself several times last summer. Back at the shop, I used compressed air to blow the line clear. The problem has not shown up in quite some time.

Need to reset my oil service light on my john deere lawn mower can you tell me how?

Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly.
The light (blinking notification on digital read out) will come on 1/2 hour before and remain on for 1/2 hour after the interval. If you pass your model number I can paste the notification data. It is NOT re-setable.

How Does Your Hour Meter Function? Model Year
Model Number and Product Identification Number Groups. Is the tractor equipped with an hour meter? Does it accumulate hours with the key switch left "ON", but not running? How long does the service reminder (SVC) display before and after service intervals? Does the Hour meter stay lit or display hours when the key is in the" OFF" position? Does the hour meter only count hours when the engine is running?
