I have had problems similar to this on many devices and it is usually a dud LED (light). You can technically de-solder the current LED and replace it but it's not a job for anybody without very good soldering skills.

Check to see if your system is still in warranty as this should be covered. Any electronics repair shop should be able to fix this for you.

Bose products are highly proprietary. If they have non-standard connectors from the amp or in the speakers I'd take that as a clue they're NOT compatible with other manufacturers' products.

Lifestyle 12, NO AUDIO and a DEAD DISPLAY

You are correct. The display unit is separate from the audio issue. I have tired to work on a few of these units over the years.

Bose is so proprietary in thier electronics and repair that the average electronics technician cannot service them.

Your only luck it to send the units in for service. If you are dead set on wanting the bose units then, $250 may be worth the repair charges to you.

If I was you, I would retire the Bose equipment and go to my local electronics store to purchase a different brand unit.

Bose lifestyle fault code 802

Here's what the Bose support website suggests.  Good Luck!
Messages displayed during a Music Information Update
Messages may appear on your media center display during a Music Information Update. If you see a message with instructions to call Bose, and a three-digit code such as "Error Code 802" or "Failed 172" while performing a Music Information Update, it does not necessarily mean there's something wrong with the system. Performing a media center reset and installing the update again may address the issue.

To reset your media center, follow these steps:
  1. Turn the media center off. Wait two minutes

  2. Unplug the power cord from the media center. Wait 30 seconds

  3. Reconnect the power cord

  4. Wait until "Bose Lifestyle" disappears from the screen

Note: After a reset, you will need to wait several minutes before playing stored music (3 to 20 minutes, depending on how many CDs have been stored). All other sources will be available immediately after the system powers up.

If you have any additional questions about these messages, please contactBose® Technical Support or call 1-800-278-1281.

Bose Lifestyle 12 Porblems

sorry mate, looks like cd 5 is damaged goods...... wheter you damaged it or not, can't say....

however, make sure. when you try to play cd, that the cd button, nearest display was pressed as just putting in a cd isn't automatically taking control of the cd function like in other cd players. ( that is to say you have to diliberately select CD mode to play cd's)

if you fancy a load of electronic messing and visits to radio shack i am sure you can repair it if broken,
or a second hand cd unit could be obtained elsewhere on line.

Bose lifestyle 12 music center display inop

My display has not been working for years. Replaced c17 cap wich was 33uF 63 volts on lower pcb board( only one on system) . Old cap was good so this was not the problem. Replaced c16 wich was 100uF 25 volts with a 100uF 63volts. Display works, old cap read low. Both c17, and c16 are located on the lower left hand corner of the larger pcb looking from the front of the unit. Hope this helps.

No sound ? Make sure the audio input cable is connected to the music center FIXED outputs, the black connector is fully seated in the music center SYSTEM CONTROL 1 jack, and the multi-pin connector is firmly seated in the Acoustimass module jack. ? Turn the music center off for ten seconds, then on again, to reestablish communication between the music center and the speakers. ? Check the connections for any external components. Make sure to select the correct source for the desired input. ? Check the speaker connections. ? Be sure the CD is placed correctly, label-side up, in the music center, and the cover is closed. ? Increase the volume. ? Check to see if MUTE is lit in the display. Press the MUTE button on the remote to unmute the sound. ? Disconnect any headphones. ? Connect the FM and AM antennas , and last but not least. Make sure there is power going to the remote speakers or the unit will not communicate with them. Good Luck
