Ugh! It accidentally went out with this week's recyclables literallly within an hour of this post. I'm trying to contact the gal who got my fax machine as she said she was able to get one off of the 'net. I'll share that if she does.
So sorry to get your hopes up. I had it in my hands just a few hours ago. :(

Your firstly need to put your hp fax machine through the machines fax diagnostics found under the tools menu. This will hopefully identify any obvious problems.
You need to ensure that you have the correct cable from your telephone socket to the fax machine. It should be a BT Plug to RJ11 Crossover telephone cable in the U.K. This cable reverses the polarity of the terminals and will look identical to other terminals but is not.
Available from cabling for less Item Code BT-203X Price 3.28 plus vat and postage.
Ask your telephone line provider to check there is no noise in the background as fax machines sender and fax machiine receiver are like birds in love. They sing to each other before the receiving machine recognises the sending machine and accepts the message.

Some Sharp fax machines require a certain type of SMTP server in order to be able to send emails. SMTP2Go provides an SMTP server that authenticates senders based on their 'from' email address, meaning that it works with fax machines that are unable to send an SMTP username or password.
Two examples of SMTP setup procedures for popular Sharp fax machines are below:
Sharp UX-B800SE and UX-D1200SE Broadband Fax SMTP setup
In the 'Network Settings' area, enter smtp2go.com as the SMTP server, and UNCHECK the box 'POP before SMTP'. Try entering either port 2525, 25, or 587 as the outgoing SMTP port. Then, make sure you are sending 'from' an email address that is registered with SMTP2Go.
See a sample screenshot from the UX-B800SE fax below (click on it to enlarge):
Please note that Gmail's SMTP server doesn't work, as it not only requires a username/password, but it also requires that SSL/TLS is used.
Please note: some fax machines may still have a problem sending - if this is the case, use the IP address of 207.58.142.213 instead of smtp2go.com as the SMTP server.
I have an ALCO 2200. Luckily I have the manual. If some one need the manual, I can photocopy and send it to you, if you do not mind paying the postage. :)
