digial....I am getting maybe 4 of the listed 15. Shouldn't I be able to get all that Verizon is putting in the house?

  • sstgwt1 Aug 12, 2008

I am sooo confused. The laptop is in a room that does not have a cable tuner box. I thought the tuner with antenna was stand alone that's why I bought the expresscard. :(

  • sstgwt1 Aug 13, 2008

Thanks. I think I have it. I bought this thinking I would get all the channels my other tv's get.....but it will only pick up air channels, which appears to be only 5.

If this is the same one I have, you should be getting all of your cable channels.

If you have a cable plugged into it from the coax of your Verizon, you should be. Make sure that the splitter you are using is approved for digital cable use. Radio Shack carries some that will.

You shoul have one line split into your cable tuner box and the other should be plugged into the Expresscard.

It is a standalone unit as long as you have an antenna plugged into it. You will only get over the air channels that way.

If your using Verizon as your cable provider and you want to connect your computer to the cable tv system, you will have to get a splitter into the cable connection in your wall, take a line from the splitter and plug it into the tuner card using the coax adaptor. Make sure the Express card is set in analog mode when you plug it in. You can probably get the first 150 channels that way.

There is a setting on the card to switch between analog and digital channels. Depending on what mode the card is in, you can get more or less channels that way.

Get dish network to work with hp SR5505F COMPAQ PRESARIO COMPUTER

You can not change channels on Satellite with your TV tuner card. The satellite box decodes the sat signal (it is sent encrypted) you can run S-Video/RCA/HDMI depending on the video card input, but you will be required to change the channel on the Dish box. The TV card can only change channels on broadcast (over the air) channels, you can attach an antenna and it will use the NTSC tuner to change analog channels (if they are still available) and the ATSC tuner to change digital/HD broadcast channels. This card (from your description can ONLY deal with broadcast TV, You will need a TV card with a QAM tuner for unscrambled digital cable. There is no solution for directly interfacing with Satellite on a PC or Mac (DirectTV or Dish) the signal from the satellite is encrypted and requires (at least for DirectTV, a fairly complicated decryption setup to function, this is handled by the tuner box/card combination. Sorry your setup will not support changing the channel on the PC, you may be able to find some kind of software that can utilize an IR transmitter to change the channels on your satellite box, similar to the way a Tivo or other DVR can talk to cable boxes, but that is the best you will be able to do as far as channel changing.

Yep! I agree - your tuner on the TV is not made for Digital reception.
You will still need to use the Verison Cable box to view any channels.

The newer TV's have the digital Tuners built in. Note: Plasma's are faster locking on to channels than LCD's.

Dual toner card

You will have to install each tv turner software not different folder in the program files folder.

During the installation of the drivers and software you will be prompted with the directory where the software will be installed, on this page you should select say for eg:

for the first tv turner card C:\program files\ hp tv turner
for the second tv turner card say c:\program files \hp tv turner 2

this should be done for every directory mentioned during the installation.
other wise both the card will try to use the same driver and software files, there will be a clash, thus one one tv turner card will be viewed.

When you watch TV with a Cable Box or a Dish Network Box you are using a tuner inside that box. The signal that comes out of that box only contains one channel, the one you're tuned to. So you can take the output of the Dish Box and send it into your ATI tuner card, but you cannot change the channel to anything other than what the DIsh Box is set to. I'm sorry, but that's just the way it is. I use a Hauppague tuner card that has what's called an "IR Blaster". By hooking this device up to my Cable Box and I can used my computer to change the channel on the Cable Box itself.

If you had cable, you could run the cable into the TV tuner and watch the analog channels. I have Time Warner in my area and they still broadcast about 50 channels in analog. I cannot use the tuner card to watch any of the digital channels. This probably does not help you, but I thought you might like to know.

I want you to know that I don't get paid to offer these suggestions. I know it's a strange hobby, but I like to help when I can. Even though I cannot solve your problem I hope I provided helpful information and you will give this solution a positive rating. I've noticed that many times this type of question goes unanswered because nobody wants to get a bad rating when a problem has no solution. Thanks and good luck.
