Most of these universal remotes don't always have the same features as the original remote. I usually just keep the old remote for just that purpose---to set the T-Set. Otherwise, sorry.
First of all, thank you for posting your question here at Fixya.
Emerson EWC19T3 original remote control is no longer available. The only available now is the substitute remote control that provide similar functionality to the original one. Please click here to open the link in a new tab.
The sequence should go from the wall to the VCR then the VCR to the RF modulator then from the RF modulator to the TV and this should allow you to record a TV program and watch a DVD at the same time.
It sounds like your grandson found the "monochrome" setting in the menu on your remote. It may be in the "picture settings", "set-up" or "advanced" setting.
With cable input connected to "RF in"on rear of unit make sure vidoe input is set to "Tuner". This will show up on the TV screen. Change channels numerically or using up/down arrow keys on DVR remote. Note there is a slight pause between changing channels. You probably will have to "autoscan" for channel setup/etc. If you say your TV set is old; it probabaly is equiped with coax
connection only/set TV channel to "3" or "4". when yot opt to play vcr/dvd it will override your
cable channel selected. Hope this helps!
using the magnovox remote, reprogram the vcr's channels. set it up to use cable not air. when the vcr was unlugged it lost it's channel memory. don't buy new cables, you're getting a picture and sound so that means your rca cables are ok.
Consult VCR operator manual .....If I remember, there is a selection in the menu to designate a channel so that when a source box is used, the channel selected remains the same in
timer mode........channel recorded is selected on box,in that
equipment configuration............so step thru the video recorder
menu on page at a time.........T.
The only solution to this problem is to buy a new remote from the manufacturer. Aftermarket remotes that I have looked at: RCA, PHILLIPS, SONY, etc do not have a speed select button for the VCR. (which IMHO is stupid) Come on aftermarket people- it cant be that hard to program a speed select button!
