I have an ooma telo and canon mf4150 fax machine. I have a main line and a 2nd dedicated fax line on my telo. I have a 3-way splitter on my telo phone port with connections to 1) the fax machine, 2) my panasonic telepone and 3) the telephone plug (to distribute the ooma dial tone throughout my house.

Problem: when I get a phone call on my main line (which is not enabled in ooma my page preferences for fax), the fax machine picks it up.

I was going to set up ooma to deliver a distinctive ring on the fax line, but the choices for distinctive rings do not match the fax machine's choices for distinctive rings.

I can't leave the fax machine on manual answer (recommended by ooma) because it is a dedicated fax line to receive faxes whenever they come in.

Hooking up fax to KX TG7871 Panasonic Phone

There is excellent support here on basic fax setups. You have what is known as "Distinctive Ringing Service". There are pros and cons to the various setups. I assume you recognize the rings and answer only when the ring for the landline talk comes on. The fax will pick up the faxes, and the answering machine will pick up the voice.

Need model number of your fax - google that!

Distinctive Ringing Service setup While it is not available everywhere, a distinctive ringing service can be purchased from most telephone companies. With this service, more than one phone number is assigned to the same phone line. Each phone number will ring differently. The main number will ring with a normal single ring and the additional number will ring with a distinctive ring pattern assigned by the phone company.
When a distinctive ringing service is used, set the Rings to Answer to 2 and then follow the steps below to set the distinctive ringing pattern:
  1. Press Setup , press 4 , and then press 1 to enter the Answer Ring Pattern setup of the Advanced Fax settings.
  2. Use the Right Arrow to scroll through the available settings. When the ring pattern assigned by the phone company displays (double or triple rings), press OK .

I have a canon mx410 all in one inkjet printer.i need assistance with setting up the fax to a phone line. Thank you Zainy

  • Call your phone company to sign up for service. Ask for an additional line with a "distinctive ring." The additional line is for your fax machine---whenever you hear the distinctive ring you'll know that a fax is coming through. Get voice mail service on the regular phone line as well.

Purchase a two-jack phone splitter (sometimes called a wall jack adapter) that allows two cords to plug into the same phone line. Plug it into the phone jack in your wall.

  • Run a phone cord from both machines into the wall adapter. Test the system by calling both your regular phone number (assure it rings and the voice mail picks up) and your fax number to see if the fax machine picks up (you'll hear a set of strange beeping tones).

    Can't send or receive faxes

it's most likely the compression on the phone line or you need to set up your fax machine for proper receive mode.
Contact your phone service provider to see if they support faxes.
(Faxes cannot handle nearly as much compression as standard voice)

Can't receive fax. MP530is set on DRPD. Phone

DR is for distinctive ring, do you actually have distinctive ring from your phone company? Have you set the matching pattern into the Canon? It will only answer when it is sent the proper ring, unless you turn off distinctive ring.

    Phone line and fax line

If you actually have a 2 line setup with 2 #'s each with it's own separate line, it's wired backwards. Otherwise (distinctive ring, etc) the machine has to be capable of and set-up to recognize which ring pattern is a fax call.
Also, you have to enable auto-answer on the fax machine.
