Hi there
My fax picks up on my phone line as well as for distinctive ring. How do I set this up for just distinctive ring? I can't find it in the menu.
Thanks
I have an ooma telo and canon mf4150 fax machine. I have a main line and a 2nd dedicated fax line on my telo. I have a 3-way splitter on my telo phone port with connections to 1) the fax machine, 2) my panasonic telepone and 3) the telephone plug (to distribute the ooma dial tone throughout my house.
Problem: when I get a phone call on my main line (which is not enabled in ooma my page preferences for fax), the fax machine picks it up.
I was going to set up ooma to deliver a distinctive ring on the fax line, but the choices for distinctive rings do not match the fax machine's choices for distinctive rings.
I can't leave the fax machine on manual answer (recommended by ooma) because it is a dedicated fax line to receive faxes whenever they come in.
Help?
How to Set the Receive Mode (MF4140/MF4150)
1. Press [Additional Functions].
2. Use [Left cursor] or [Right cursor] to select [FAX SETTINGS], then press [OK].
3. Use [Left cursor] or [Right cursor] to select [RX SETTINGS], then press [OK].
4. Use [Left cursor] or [Right cursor] to select [RX MODE], then press [OK].
5. Use [Left cursor] or [Right cursor] to select the receive mode, then press [OK].
[FaxOnly]: Answers all calls as faxes and disconnects voice calls.
[AnsMode]: Receives faxes automatically and records voice messages.
[NET SWITCH]: Distinguishes between fax and voice calls.
[FaxTel]: Switches between fax and voice calls automatically.
[MANUAL]: Does not answer any calls. You have to manually receive faxes.
NOTE:
a. For [FaxTel] or [MANUAL], make sure the optional handset or an external telephone is connected to the machine.
b. For [AnsMode], make sure an answering machine is connected to the machine.
c. The [NET SWITCH] mode is available for certain countries only and requires subscription to a network switch service.
6. Press [Stop/Reset] to return to the standby mode.
Call your phone company to sign up for service. Ask for an additional line with a "distinctive ring." The additional line is for your fax machine---whenever you hear the distinctive ring you'll know that a fax is coming through. Get voice mail service on the regular phone line as well.
Purchase a two-jack phone splitter (sometimes called a wall jack adapter) that allows two cords to plug into the same phone line. Plug it into the phone jack in your wall.
Run a phone cord from both machines into the wall adapter. Test the system by calling both your regular phone number (assure it rings and the voice mail picks up) and your fax number to see if the fax machine picks up (you'll hear a set of strange beeping tones).
