Tip & How-To about Saeco Vienna De Luxe Espresso Machine

My Saeco Vienna Deluxe is brewing slowly or not at all.

Hi
There are a couple of things on a delux that can cause this.
Your grind is to fine ( the big knob in the bean hopper is below 8. If it is turn the big knob to a larger number. You can turn the big knob any time to a larger number but it has to be grinding to turn it to a smaller number. 3 cycles before it has changed the grind in the brew unit. You can push the button to stop brewing so you don't have to wait for it to finish. If that is not it go to the next solution.
That is usually a pluged or restricted brew head.
That usually means that you are getting a restriction in the brew head from oils and fine coffee grounds.
Remove the brew unit. Holding the handle, on the top left side is the brew head, there is an outlet pipe that exits the front side towards the door (looks like a long "L" pipe). 2 screws hold it to the top. Remove the 2 screws while holding the manifold ("L" pipe assembly). Once they are removed, lift the l assembly off (be careful, there is an O-ring, spring and at the end a black rubber disk or crystal ball). Do this over a towel to prevent loosing small pieces, mainly the crystal ball.
Now remove the brew screen, by holding the screen with your finger and twisting the thumbscrew (remember, thumbscrew), DON'T use the key to install the screen, use your fingers.
Once the screen is out, look at where the screen was. There are 2 holes. A big one in the center and a small one to the side.
With the brew unit upside down over the towel, insert a paperclip into the small hole and force anything out the other side. I have gotten worms almost a 1" long from this passage. The paper clip has to go from this side to prevent damage to the seat on the other side.
Clean then reassemble. Brew unit on towel right side up. Drop the crystal ball in first. Then the spring small end first on the crystal ball.
Now the O-ring over the spring, then place the manifold on top of that with the pipe towards the machine. Insert your screws (I turn them backwards a little with a little downward pressure until they feel like they drop into the threads. They should turn down easily, if not back them up a little more ( we are trying to find the old threads) and tighten. Install screen, and tighten with your fingers. The screen just needs to be flush with the bottom of the brew head. That should do it

my machine is having a problem grinding the coffee it is gringing it but very slowly

HI
Its probably set to fine in the bean hopper. The big knob in the bean hopper should be set around 8. If its lower than that you need to turn it up. If you have 2 knobs in the bean hopper you can turn the small knob towards the + side, but not all the way for stronger coffee.

I accidently poured about half a cup of water into the bean hopper. Now it still grinds beans but it will not start to cycle (the bean light does not turn off). Can i take it apart and dry it out or clean it out.

Taking the grinder apart is not easy to do and get it back the way it is suppose to be is not easy. The first thing I would do is turn the big knob to the 18 or max and the small knob to the -, and try again. If that works leave it there for a couple shots to clean everything out. If that works continue. Then while the grinder is grinding, turn the big knob back down to 8-10 and make some more drinks. 6 to 8 is a good start.
If it didn't work you will need directions but the damage may be already done. The burrs ghave no coating on them and they can rust very quickly. you may need new burrs or a new grinder.
I have a saying " If you are working on the water, keep the bean hopper covered and vice versa". Cross contamination will damage the machine very quickly.

Machine would not stop grinding. Why?

There are a couple of things that will cause this.
1. Your grind is too fine. Turn the big knob in the bewn hopper to a larger #
2. You are using a shiney bean that has more oils and the oils are sticking the coffee together.
3. Your passage way to the doser from the grinder is blocked with coffee. Try turning the small knob in the bewn hopper to the neutral position.

Grinder settings for Vienna Deluxe

Hi
To start off with, you should not change the big knob unless the grinder is operating at the time.
Set the small knob to the middle position. You can move this any time. Move towards the + mark to strengthen the coffee, but never all the way to the full +.
Set the big knob to the #8 to start off with. Move it 1 # smaller to make the coffee stronger but be careful not to get it to fine as you will clog the grinder and you will have to take it apart to clean. If you ever get an out of beans light, but there are beans in the hopper, open the knob to #16 for 1 cycle, then turn it back down to a # 1 larger than you had before and leave it unless you get the message again. Shiny beans call for a coarser grind than a dull bean because of the oils in the coffee bean. Oils will cause the grinds to stick together and cause clogs faster than beans that have less oil.
