The answer to this question lies in the way the freezer/fridge combo works. The freezer is where the cooling coils are located. Then air is moved over the coils and circulated through the fridge side by a small blower or fan. The problem arises when the air is not circulated for some reason.
The reasons the air is not moving is usually two reasons
The first reason is pretty simple to fix, you simply replace the air circulator and things are good again.
The second reason can be more difficult.
1.The timing device that runs the defrost cycle of the refrigerator is defective.
2.The heater coil that melts the water is shorted or not working
Usually the first thing to check is the heater coil. If there is resistance through the coil then most likely it is still good.
The timing device can be an advanced defrost control board or a mechanical timing device.
If the heater coil checks out to be good then the problem should be the timer.
For most situations, unplugging the refrigerator and allowing it to defrost on it's own will get you going temporarily, till parts can be shipped to you. That will melt the ice and give you a few days or a couple of weeks till it ices up to the point where it will not work again.
So you can see, the problem can usually be traced to one of three things.
By methodically checking these parts you can isolate your problem and fix it.
Hi brianey,
The first thing to check when your refrigerator is not getting cold at all is the compressor. Since on your case it's running and the machine is not blowing cold air inside the freezer. You may have (1) a restriction inside the sealed system or (2) have a leak in the sealed system and all the Freon has escaped. Of course if there's no Freon no cool. And this is not a do it yourself job. You will need to contact a local repairman.
However there's another thing that you can check and you can do it yourself. Have your condenser coil be checked. Consider cleaning these first, they get dusty and hairy too specially if you have pets. The Condenser Coils on your Refrigerator is where the Freon gets put under pressure, therefore causing them to get warm. In order for your Refrigerator to run efficiently these coils need to be able to dissipate Cleaning the Condenser Coils the heat. If the coils are covered in Pet Hair or Dust, this will cause the sealed system to overheat. You may use a damp rag or lint brushes. Before doing any checking remember your safety.
Hope it helps.
Thank you for using FixYa.

The last "expert" did not realise that this model has an enclosed condensor coil in the frig cabinet so is not subject to atmospheric dirt/dust. Does this mean that the compressor is short of refrigerant?
