Buy a used camera (sold for parts, with good LCD) through ebay.com. If you try to buy the LCD by itself, usually it is expensive. A camera can be bought for under $15. Buy a jewellers screwdriver set for $1 from Dollar store.
If you do a Google search for 'digital camera parts' the first listing is a website that can help you. The LCD repair package is $72 with return shipping of the camera to you.
The website name is: Darntoothysam com, then search by "A650" and you will see it.
How do I know this? I own the business, that's how. We specialize in LCD and lens repair for affordable prices. If we can help please let us know.
you can get a replacement lcd unit from canon at 800-652-2666, part number CM1-4131-000 cost $18.40 shipping ups ground $6.00 total cost $25.87. Good Luck!
Usually you can still take pictures in this situation. I fix alot of lcd's for alot of different Digital cameras. The LCD is attached with a delicate ribbon cable to the mainboard. Some LCD's have a seperate backlight with an additional ribbon cable. You have to get a new or Used LCD and get it put in or put it in yourself. I have a repair service on e-bay and guarantee my work. e-bay store camera shy anna. It costs 64.99 to 104.99 depending on the cost of the LCD with labor and return shipping included. I can fix most stuck lenses also.
I also cracked my Canon Powershot A630 lcd screen by dropping the camera. I saw a suggestion to buy a new replacement lens and either have it professionally replaced or try it myself. I ended up doing the replacement myself following instructions I found online. Now it works. Total cost US $63.
I would not recommend trying the replacement yourself, however. There are a few very delicate plastic parts in there which I ended up damaging. Luckily the camera and lcd screen are working great now. But it is probably worth having a professional camera repair shop do the whole job or insert the screen you've purchased. Good luck!
