The 900 error usually indicates a software or communications problem. If the 900 error occurs only when the printer is receiving information from a network or computer, you should contact your software/network support. If the error occurs when the printer is idle or not connected to the network or PC, there may be a printer hardware or connection problem. Sometimes a bad connection with an Internal Network Adapter/Network Card can cause the problem. The first thing to check is the base printer.


To check the base printer


Turn off the printer and disconnect every cable, except for the power cord.

Turn on the printer and see if the error returns.

If the error does not return, try to print a test page from the Test Menu.

If the test page prints correctly, the printer

Lexmark C510 not printing - message 900 service RIP software
Hi, This error could be due to several things, the most common one is that whatever is being sent from the computer is not being recognized by the printer causing the 900 Rip Soft Error. You can try to reset the printer and try sending the print job again. If the error persisted. Then the problem could be a hardware problem with the System Board.

Typically the engine controller circuit cards go bad. the firmware (software) get corrupted. you can try upgrading the firmware but ordinarly you cant clear the 900 service fault to try that. So your only solution is the replace the engine circuit card.

Please contact the IBM Printer Technical Support for more exact information.

A 900 RIP error means that you have a down-level firmware build on the printer. Its a software bug that was more than likely fixed in later issues of code.

Normally all you have to do is download the newest firmware build and then follow the instructions to upgrade the printer.

900 Service RIP Software
Are there any memory or Barcode SIMM's in the printer? If so, remove them (power off first!) and turn the printer back on and see if it acts normally. I have had 1 instance where the Barcode SIMM has caused that error. The Barcode SIMM had to be replaced. Most other times the 900 RIP error occured, a simple turn off/on "fixed" it (sometimes only temporarily). If all that doesn't help, flash the engine code with the latest from Lexmark support. If that doesn't do it, then engine and/or controller card need replacing.

removed memory off the system board restarted printer. came up to an error no memory found.
powered down and reinstalled memory on board in a different slot and restarted unit...
NO ERRORS......

a 900 rip error is the engine card. located behind the system board (formatter) if you can get the printer to a ready state you can phone 1800lexmark and get a pin code from them costs about 15 bucks. if this flash does not work you will likley need a new engine card.
