The initial power surge when you turn it on is probably tripping the GFI. I doubt that it is the TV.
Good News!!! GFI outlets are made to trip when a large amount of power is pulled through them. A GFI is basically a small circuit breaker.Your television set is probably just pulling more amperage than the GFI is rated to handle. That means the GFI is working properly And so is the TV!

A GFI is a Ground Fault, many electronics have a ground to neutral connection in them. They shouldn't but I have run across this before. If you are trying to watch the TV on back patio , garage or Kitchen counter you can get a ground eliminator from your local hardware store for a little over a $1. If you are plugging into the GFI itself you can put a new outlet in right above the GFI and wire it to the "LINE" side of the GFI, then you will be grounded.
