Thanks, I'm certain the 12V is connected. I metered it and its fine, I have it connected to the yellow cable. The radio stations aren't resetting but maybe those are stored in flash.
I have a new problem though. At the moment when I turn the ignition the cd drive whirrs up, the lights on the radio come on and then go off and the radio won't turn on. I'll have to check fuses later.
One of the wires from the firewall is just 5V whether the ignition is on or off, I assume this isn't needed and is for an advanced feature like remote control power, or powered aerial.
Do I just need 3 lines to power the radio, constant 12V, ignition toggled 12V and ground?

Appreciate your help greatly.
Correction, my last post should have read I have the constant 12V connected to the red cable of the radio harness and the ignition toggled 12V to the yellow cable of the radio harness
