The processor is a Socket AM3 type, and you can use any heatsink that fits that socket type. It really doesn't depend on the board, unless you choose one so large it interferes with the RAM sockets. You might also need to take the case dimensions into account as well. This one from Tigerdirect is one I have used on a couple of systems and it's worked well.

All of THESE should fit your Motherboard / CPU combo, just click on the "Specs" tab and look in compatibility section to make sure "AM3" is listed in there.

Hi,

You can find heatsinks at the following link, you will need one that is compatible with
AM3 AMD 770 ATX AMD motherboards

If you look through each product, it will show you compatibility or you can filter search results.

Is the Am3+ socket also possible for sapphire AM3RS890G2?

am3+ socket is what the socket is listed on the motherboard, so if you have a CPU that fits only AM3+, the CPU wont fit it unless directed by the CPU manufacture seeing that AM3+ is for AMD processors only if you have a older AM3 CPU it might fit the AM3+ motherboard if listed, this paticular model only lists AM3 and fits Sempron, Phenom II X3, Athlon II X2, Phenom II X2, Athlon II X4, Athlon II X3, Phenom II X4, Phenom II X6

Processor Support (CPU Support),

AMD Phenom II X4 model 920, uses .0875 to 1.425 Volts, (DC),

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AMD_Phenom_microprocessors#.22Deneb.22_.28C2.2FC3.2C_45_nm.2C_Quad-core.29

That is the average voltage range for the AMD Phenom II X 4 processor.

Look back at the AMD Phenom chart again on Wikipedia, and look especially at the voltage range for the 900e to the 945.
Now look at the ECS CPU Support page again, and you'll see your motherboard supports Phenom II X4 processors from 900e to 945.

Since the 910e and the 925 are supported, I know the technology of the 920 is supported.
The Core architecture and nanometer technology it is based on, is supported.
No BIOS update may be needed.

Yes is the answer.

[NOTE*
That processor can use up to 125 watts of power. You need a decent Power Supply.
That processor also gets H-O-T!
Make sure it has a GOOD cooling system, and the computer case inside, and the Power Supply, inside, are kept clean ]

I bought a MSi 790gx-g65 mobo and an AMD Phenom II x4 940 which is am2+. Everything I've heard about this mobo is that it's am2+ and am3 capable, will the Phenom II am2+ I just bought work in this mobo?

Yes it will, but you'll need to update the bios to the latest one in order to be sure the processor is recognized. The 790 chipset will make that board an excellent performer with the Phenom 940. Give it as much dual channel ram as you can afford, up to the max of 4 gig for a 32 bit O/S or 64 gig for a 64 bit system.
