Make sure that the driver for your printer has been installed. There is a CD that comes with this scanner. Make sure to use that and install all necessary software.

HP also has links to order a replacement driver CD available from the same set of pages. I hope this helps. Cindy Wells (note: the downloads do not include any third-party software that was on the original CD.)
Hi , Scanjet 5470c does'nt work under W 7 . No drivers available . Here are a few hints : 1° hint : Do not connect scanner . Load XP driver ( yes , XP) , reboot , connect scanner and wait for confirmation of successfull operation . Reboot . Dowload and install FreeKapture ( yes , it's free ) from http://download.cnet.com/FreeKapture/3000-2094_4-10673689.html Open Freekapture , clic on Scan and select WIA-Hewlett-Packard . Scanjet 4470c works fine in this mode but if you choose HP PrecisionScan Pro , program will hang . In any case , no slides or negatives scans possible but the rest works . 2° hint : If you have the W XP install disc , you could install a virtual version of W XP on your HDD ( http://downloads.vmware.com/d/info/desktop_downloads/vmware_player/3_0 ) You could also partition your HDD ( http://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html ) and install W XP on the new one . Regards .
The only ways to get scanner 4470c run under W7 are these 3 options : 1° solution one : make sure driver XP ( yes XP ) is correctly installed . Download and install FreeKapture from http://download.cnet.com/FreeKapture/3000-2094_4-10711598.html . Load FreeKapture , clic on Scan and select WIA-Hewlertt-Packard . Scanner will work fine in this mode but if you choose PrecisionScan Pro , program will hang . In any case , no slides or negative scans possible but the rest works . 2° solution two : if you have XP install disc , you can install a virtual version of XP on your HDD ( http://www.vmware.com/products/player/ ) 3° solution three : if you still have XP install disc , partition your HDD and install XP on the new one (http://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html ). Don't wait for HP to produce compatible drivers for this unit , it's useless .Regards . Fanaudi .
Download the file above > unplug your scanner > install the file above > reboot your computer (if needed) > login into your account > plug the scanner into your usb port > it should automatically detect your scanner > goto device manager > imaging device > right click HP Scan Jet .... > Click on Driver Tab > Click on Roll Back Driver > choose to run the driver on windows xp compatibility mode.
Or use the compatibility wizard to set scanjet pro to run on windows xp compatibility mode
HP
advises that, on some systems, the scanner hardware may get into an
error state that will keep the scanning software from finding the 3200c
ScanJet. If your scanner still isn't found after installing this driver
and software update, please follow the directions below:
Unplug the power cable from the 3200c ScanJet.
Unplug the parallel cable(s) from the 3200c ScanJet.
Shut down the PC and wait for ten seconds.
Plug in the power cable to the 3200c ScanJet.
Plug in the parallel cable(s) to the 3200c ScanJet.
Power your PC on.
If you still have the problem, uninstall the driver from device manager, and download and run this .exe file version of the driver instead.. and if necessary, repeat the above steps..
i read somewhere it was SP3 causing the problem and to uninstall it if you can. I tried and it didn't work so the computer broke down a few weks ago and the idiots installed the wrong OS. they put on xp home instead of xp pro and the scanner is working. just wondering if, when i put xp pro back on will it still work.
