Here's a link to where you can find the "doohickey" your looking for. It's really called an activation switch. There's also an exploded view of the parts for your model. Also, if you can't find it for Maytag, try Fedders. They make the same unit and actually made the one you have with the Maytag brand name on it. The model numbers will be almost identical. Juts drop the 'M' off the front.

I have this same dehumidifier. It is several years old and not working anymore. Would you be interested in the bucket that belongs to mine? Otherwise, it is going in the trash! I would be happy to mail it to you. It would be great if someone could use it, instead of it taking up space in the landfill!
