What Windows operating system are you using, is it Windows 7 or XP? Do you have a desktop or laptop? Have you installed the device driver for your wireless card?
When connecting to the internet for the first time you want to make sure you have the device driver for your wireless card installed. When purchasing a new computer normally this comes installed for you.
A good way to check is to go to move your mouse to the bottom right hand corner of your computer where the time is displayed.
You should see a little computer icon > right click it > go to view available networks > if you can see a list of routers (these would be router names like motorola, linsys, etc.. some have custom names like "moto" or "myrouter") then your wireless card is okay.
if you dont see this then its possible your wireless card is not functioning correctly. This could be easily resolved by looking for your driver cd that came with your computer and installing your wireless card driver.
While looking for networks see if you can find your router which would be named Motorola WR850G click connect.
If this is where you get the error then the issue may be the encryption. You would need to directly connect your computer to the laptop by using the grey Ethernet cable that came with it.
Open your web browser (firefox, Internet explorer, chrome...) and type in the ip address 192.168.10.1 in the url (where you would normally type google.com or any website). you should see a prompt to login use the default username: admin password: motorola
then click wireless > primary network. This is where you can configure your wireless encryption settings. Also in the status tab there is a security link where you are able to change the user name and password.
Once you have modified your encryption settings (recommended wpa2 and write your passphrase or encryption key on a piece of paper)
you can right click the computer icon in the bottom right hand corner > properties > view all networks > look for your router name click connect > and type in your wireless key or passphrase.
