SOURCE: Setting up a wireless network with internet

You will need to logon the router via the computer, and create a PPPOE internet connection. If you cannot connect to the router wirelessly my may need to use a cat5 cable between the computer and the router. The user manual that came with the router will show you how to do this. If you do not have the manual. Do the following: open internet explorer, in the address window type the IP of the router "example" http://192.168.2.1 your router IP should be on the bottom of the router. If not click start/run, type ipconfig at the > the router ip is listed at "default gateway".once you get to the routers logon page enter one of the following: username "leave blank" – username " admin " -or- username "admin" - password 1234 –or- leave password field blank.once logged on the router go to internet connections and select PPPOE enter the username and password provided by your ISP save the settings and you should make the internet connection now. SOURCE: How to use my Cnet CWR-854 Router as a wirerless antenna for pc.

You can't really use a router to connect to another router, you can sometimes use them as an "Extender" for range, but not as a WiFi card, they simply aren't made to operate that way.

SETTING UP A WIRELESS PRINTER WITHOUT A WIRELESS ROUTER - WINDOWS 7
Install Virtual Router first "Turn any Windows 7 or Windows 2008 R2 Computer into a Wifi Hot Spot."
EditByBSEditor: Virtual Router turns any Windows 7 or Windows 2008 R2 Computer into a Wifi Hot SPOT using Windows 7's Wireless Hosted Network (Virtual Wifi) technology.
The Wireless Network Create/shared with Virtual Router uses WPA2 Encryption, and there is not way to turn off that encryption. This is actually a feature of the Wireless Hosted Network API's built into Windows 7 and 2008 R2 to ensure the best security possible.
You can give your "virtual" wireless network any name you want, and also set the password to anything. Just make sure the password is at least 8 characters. http://www.brothersoft.com/virtual-router-327895.html Then install Connectify-Me Connectify is an easy to use software router for Windows 7 computers. After downloading and installing the lightweight application, Connectify utilizes your computers' built in Wi-Fi card to wirelessly share any available Internet connection: a cable modem, a cellular card, or even another Wi-Fi network. Other Wi-Fi enabled devices including laptops, smart phones, music players, and gaming systems can see and join your Connectify hotspot just like any other Wi-Fi access point and are kept safe and secure by password-protected WPA2 Encryption. http://www.connectify.me/ Then reboot computer

if you sre you should not need a disk, just simply plug in the enternet cable to your pc and the wireless router, and configure it within windows.

if not you may need to set up the router first with what ever usernames or password your ISP has provided you with

Wht should i do to conenct to internet

1. Uninstall or disable all Internet-sharing applications, proxy software and security software such as anti-virus programs or firewalls. Although every program is different, if you choose to uninstall one, you can typically do so by clicking "Start," "Control Panel" and "Add/Remove Software" and then selecting the software you wish to remove. Because Homeportal 1000 comes with its own versions of these programs, this step is essential to avoid conflicts.

2. Connect Homeportal's AC power adapter to the back of your router, and then plug it into a power outlet. The green power light should come on.

3. Connect the router to your
computer. If you're using Ethernet, connect the Ethernet cable to both the router and the Ethernet jack on the back of your computer. If you plan to use USB, follow the same procedure using the USB cable and ports, instead. For a wireless connection, ensure that your wireless card is correctly installed on your PC.

4. Connect the phone cable to the back of your router and then plug it into a phone jack. This will allow the Homeportal 1000 to receive DSL signals from the phone company.

5. Place the Homeportal 1000 installation CD into your CD drive and follow the on-screen instructions to install the necessary software and until finish installation.

Connect to network wirelessly with in 20 feet when go down to second floor network indicates no internet , but it can find router , run network trouble shooter but not much , dell has not helped ...

Hello
Signal is either too weak or something is causing it to drop out.You can try a reboot of the router.
If this doesnt work then you may need to get a wireless switch to pick up the signal from the first floor to the second.Which will need to be located in an open area like stairs.Metal decking and flouresent lights can cause the signal to drop.

Or you can buy a cable and hardwire it.Or a stronger router with a better signal.

I have broadband thru verizon on my netbook(windows7 OS). can i "jump" off that connection with my home pc, wireless capable, win xp OS? meanoing can i broadcast n\broadband signal so i can surf internet...

Yes, easy way would be through Connectify. It turns almost any Windows 7 OS PC into a virtual wifi router. The software is free. Basically, it will share whatever internet connection your netbook is getting via a virtual wifi hotspot that your other wireless devices can connect to.

No internet on PC when cables going through router

Hello there,

You have to start from the beginning and my solution would be:

1) Remove any connections(also don't forget to turn of wifi on your laptop) to router and except the power cord. With the unit powered ON locate the reset pinhole on the back of router.

2) Press and hold reset button for at least 15 secs. then release, wait for 20-30 secs. before the router can completely rebooted.

3) Configure your Computer IP address to “Obtain an IP address automatically” .

4) Connect internet cable to router on port labeled "WAN". Connect PC to any LAN ports available.

5) Now lets configure wireless router. Open any browser you have (IE, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, etc.). On the address bar type: "192.168.1.1" (without quotes). Default username: admin ; default password: admin click "OK".

6) Go through "SETUP WIZARD" until you reach the "Setup WAN Interface" page. On "WAN Access Type:" select "DHCP" then click next.

7) You may configure your "Basic Wireless Settings" to Public or Private until finished configuring.

8) On "Operation Mode" be sure you operate on "Gateway" mode.

That's it! Hope this helps.

I just want my money back. Because it asks me to uninstall a program I want to keep, Mcafee

Since McAfee is asking you to uninstall it, I am sure the program would have come in the spyware/adware list. They may have analysed that the software might create problems in your computer.

Do this.

install Microsoft virtual pc 2007, install xp on a virtual machine using this software.
Log into the virutal machin win xp , and instlal your software. If you connect to internet using that software, you can also install the internet device drivers.

YOu happy, Mcafee happy! atlast your systemis safe.

Limited or no connectivity to the internet. my setup: the telephone port is approx 30m from where i need internet access. Originally I had a dlink wireless router set up but was connected via cable, now...

On which port of the D-link router did you plug the WRT160N router?

Do this setup.

Disconnect the WRT160N from D-link.

Connect a computer to port 1 of the WRT160N. Access the setup page by typing 192.168.1.1 on the address bar. you may need to type in the username and password for WRT160N. on the setup page Change the LAN IP address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.1. save the settings.

Connect a cable from port 1,2,3 or 4 of the D-link router to the Internet port of the WRT160N. turn off everything then turn them on starting from cable modem>D-link >WRT160N then computer.

You should be able to access the internet.

Hello ,
Actually you do not need a software to configure it. Connect it to your PC with network cable and type in Internet Explorer : 192.168.0.1
And by entering ADMIN user with default (should be ADMIN as well) password you should come to setup page of your router.
