If you are in school, or have a kid in school, you may download Office 2010, or 2013 for free from Microsoft.com. That will include a free student license.
Your best policy would be to only buy and install a genuine licensed version of Microsoft Office Word 2010. If not you will almost certainly have authorization problems, which defeat the purpose of installing the software in the first place. Genuine licensed version of Microsoft Office 2010 Professional Plus Edition for as little as about $78 (plus packing and shipping) from here (and from similar websites): http://www.software4students.co.uk/Microsoft_Office_2010_Professional_Plus-details.aspx Some websites online claim that you can download Microsoft Office Word 2010 from them but to the best of my knowledge the only place on the internet where you can download a genuine copy of any Microsoft Office software is the official Microsoft website.
The only Microsoft Office product available for download is the trial version of whatever latest version of Microsoft Office that is on sale. Currently you can only download Microsoft Office 2010 trial. Microsoft Office trials are free to download but you can only use them for a limited period. After the trial period expires you must upgrade to the full version and pay Microsoft for an online activation code which unlocks the trial version and allows you to use it in perpetuity.
If this type of software is required but you do not want to or cannot afford to pay the full price of Microsoft Office, then you can use completely free Office software like Open Office, which is very similar to Microsoft Office and can even be used to open most Microsoft Office documents. You don't have to pay anything at all to download OpenOffice.
The Microsoft Office trial and activation code downloads website is: www.microsoft.com
The download website for OpenOffice is: www.openoffice.org
