Try using a different power outlet and see if the problem continues. if so you may want to try a new power cable. Either you are not receving enough power from the outlet, or the cable may be shorted out in a spot. Hope this helps.

Hi
Can you not try and get another battery from work to see if it remedies the issue. It seems like the screen doesn't get enough power when not plugged in.

Charger was plugged in and working fine, went into

OK unplug power supply from back of laptop, remove battery, insert power supply, if NO light, on laptop, power supply is broken..Replace. IF it is OK, hold power button ON for a while, or until, the PC starts, if/when it starts, shutdown, with power ON key, and then take out power supply, replace battery, replace power supply, turn laptop on, now should be OK.

Dell Inspiron 1721 - screen goes black

check the light on the power supply that you are hooked up to. before you plug it into the laptop see if there is a green light when the plug has power from the wall. if you see a green light on...good. it means the power supply is responding correctly so far. if you get no green light, then your transformer is out in the psu. if you get a green light and plug in to the laptop and the light goes out, one of two things could be going on. first there could be a short in the psu like the previous tech said, the second more serious issue could be the power controller on the motherboard. they've been known to go out. like the tech before said. try another power supply if you can. but if you are getting a green light on the power supply before you plug it in...there may be another problem with it.

good luck!

HP dv9000 display works fine on battery but not AC

It's either the motherboard or the power supply.

I'd start with testing the power supply. If you've got a multi-meter great. Just measure the voltage and see if it fluctuates.

If not, check with a local repair shop to see if they have a power adapter they could use to test with.

Computer wont start, no signs of life, power supply is good and green light turs off when plugging into computer

Hi there
Sounds like a common problem
when you plug the power pack into the laptop its power light goes off because there is a fault. Most commonly this is connected with the plug or the socket into which it goes or the motherboard.
visually inspect the socket, if the central pin is loose thats your problem, if not then check the plug/jack bend the cable on it as these are prone to breaking. wiggle it around whilst checking the power button and status lights if none of that works then you need to strip the laptop and perform a continuity test on the first stage.
ie between socket and motherboard. please note for any sign of exposed cable and remember electricity hurts on contact be carefull. especially if you test motherboard for voltage.
ps the switch is pretty reliable and i would not poke anything in that hole just yet.

Laptop screen flashes... i.e.... goes bright then dim

Check your power supply. Maybe its wire is broken then intermitently making contact every now and then. Its my first suspect. Its like disconnecting and reattaching its power supply only in much faster way. Or test it with a good similar power supply if this will be the same.

Hope this one helps already.
