Question about HP Photosmart C7180 All-In-One InkJet Printer
There are several issues that can cause an Ink System Failure for an inkjet.
First try to reset the printer. With the printer on, unplug the power cord from the printer. Then unplug the power cord from the wall outlet. (If you are using a USB connection, also unplug the data cable from both the computer and the printer.) Wait at least 15 seconds and then plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and then the printer. Turn on the printer if it doesn't turn on automatically.
If the error persists, then clean the printhead. Have bottled or distilled water and lint-free clothes available (coffee filters will work). Note: you should plan on working quickly; the cartridges should not be out of the printer for more than 30 minutes. With the printer on, open the cartridge access door. Wait until the cartridge carrier comes to a stop. Then remove the ink cartridges, then lift the latch handle on the right of the print head. Lift the printhead straight up. Next dampen a lint free cloth (wring out the excess water). Wipe the electrical contacts from bottom to top (do not touch the nozzles) until the area is clean of dried ink. With another damp cloth, wipe the edge between the nozzles and the electrical contacts. With another cloth, wipe the two ramps on the sides of the print head working away from the nozzles. Dry all of these areas with a clean cloth (undampened). Next dampen another cloth and wipe the contacts inside the printer (work from top to bottom). Again dry the contacts. Then put the printhead back into the printer and lower the latch handle. Replace the ink cartridges and close the access door. Then reset the printer again if the error persists.
If the error continues, either the printhead needs to be replaced or the printer needs service. Unfortunately, a replacement printhead is not returnable if it does not solve the problem.
