The best way to scan images to save on yourcomputer is to use the scanner software on the computer. Not the scan functionon the scanner.
You don't say what type of scanner software you have but usually scannersoftware works this way:
1) Place photo on scanner
2) Open scanner software
3) Using the software, Initiate scan
4) Name the Scanned item and save it to your desired location/folder
Note: some applications will automatically save to --My Documents--My Pictures
5) Repeat process for each pic to be scanned

Also, if you are just scanning, it should not matter what the ink situation is.

My brother 7220 will not scan it is saying check cables? I can copy and fax , what am I missing?

Printers usually have a separate driver for scanning and printin.

You might need to install that driver into the pc where you want the scan to come out on. It usually comes out when you insert the install disk.

If you do not have the install disk, just go online to the brother printer website and type in your printer model number usually it will show you the drivers needed to install and instructions to do it.

Hi i have a printer (brother MFC-235C). I changed

No there's no specific drivers for windows 7 either 32 bit or 64 bit, it'll automatically install the device with the default drivers.
details here

If there's a problem with your cartridge or cartridge ink level indicator, then you better clean the cartridge contact points and the contact points on the printer.
Good luck

Just got a new computer w/windows 7 and now my brother mfc-8840D won't scan to pdf now? Any ideas on a solution to fix?

How to get a MFC-8840/D/DN to scan to Windows 7 over the network or by USB:

First - Download the Windows Vista Full Driver & Software Package from Brother: Brother MFC-8840DN driver download page

Install the drivers using a custom install - pick only the Network scanning drivers, unless you want the other junk - no promises on how well the other stuff works.
-------
Alternatively, if connecting the MFC-8840DN to Windows 7 by USB, download the Printer and Scanner Driver for Local Connection. It is a separate download. Install only the Scanner driver.
-------

Once the Vista scanner driver is installed, you can test by running the built-in Windows 7 Scanner Wizard. Here are instructions on how to test.

As far as conversion to PDF, that will depend on the software. I am not sure if the Control Center or Paperport softwares work on Windows 7. I have not tried those. I have found that freeware STP will works fine.
Here is a link to the STP homepage.

My brother printer MFC 420cn says it is not compatiable with windows 7

Hello,

The MFC-420CN is part of the BH3 series which brother did not develop drivers or software for compatible with Windows 7.

This does not mean it is not compatible though.
What this means is that you can only use the built in drivers with windows 7.

When you plug is with a USB cable, it should install automatically for printing and scanning.

If you are using a network, you can go through the add a printer in "Devices and printers" but wont be able to scan.

If WIndows does not give you the option to select the MFC-420CN, then you will need to complete a windows update to have the driver.

Thanks,

Pat

MFC 5440cnz I get ''unable to clcean message'' have unplugged it and restarted cimouter, but still getting message

Unplug the printer from power cord.Press and hold the "menu" button, then plug the device. You'll see on the LCD screen a "machine error" code.If this code is 40,41 or 4F the print head is defective. If the error is 48 - defective print head cable or circuit board. If the error is 50 or 51 there is error in Purge unit and printer require service. If the error is 46 the waste ink tank is full.Follow this:
Enter 80, then scroll down with the arrow down (round) key. You'll find an entry listed as purge count. If number is over 6000, enter 2 7 8 3.This will reset the purge count value. Then restart the printer, hopefully without the annoying cannot clean message.

Just want to SCAN, with image going to computer

machine always refuses ANY function if a color is empty.

You can cheat the machine by sticking some thin black adhesive tape around the cart nose (looking from above onto the cartholder within the printer it is the right hand side of the cart).

This signals the machine a full cart.
