Question about Philips CDC751 5-Disc CD Changer

Open Question

Discs in player but display says no disc

Several months ago I cleaned my cd lens with a Recoton Laser-Matic laser lens cleaner, which I've used for several years, and the player quit working. The display indicated that I needed to insert a disc. Yesterday, I tried to play a cd again and it played wonderfully for 2 songs then quit again. I had selected "shuffle" just prior to hitting "play". When it quit, the display showed "shuffle Disc 2", but nothing was happening. I took shuffle off, opened the changer and selected "quick play" and it played one song, stopped and displayed something that looked like an "I". I hit shuffle and the display showed "insert disc". I turned the player off, selected "play" and the changer rotated and "read" each disc and then displayed "insert disc" and then "no disc" even though I had 4 disc in the changer. I put the Recoton lens cleaner in again today, but the player quit before the cleaner was able to do anything and the player will no longer work, but only says "no disc". A service man told me to chuck it out 'cause it would cost me $40 just for him to check it out and a new player is so cheap these days, but if anyone has a fix, I'd sure appreciate it. Thanks.

Sounds like that may be the case. You can buy one of those cd cleaning discs and try using that. or if you want to spend the time dis-assembling the recorder and use some rubbing alchohol and a q-tip to clean the laser lens. Otherwise not worth the cost to repair.

SOURCE: When I insert a CD-R

The message NO DISC may appear for several reasons:
1.No disc is loaded->Load a disc into the player, close the door and press PLAY
2.The disc may be defective->Try a different disc
3.The disc is placed improperly in the tray->Make sure the disc is properly placed and centered in the tray and if the disc has a label on one side, make sure the label is facing up
4.The disc is dirty->Use a soft cloth to clean the disc by wiping in a straight line from the center of the disc to the outside edge
5.If the player cannot read CDs/DVDs correctly, try using a commonly available cleaning CD/DVD to clean the lens before taking the device to service. Other cleaning methods may destroy the lens.
6.Using non supported discs may lead to playback problems or jamming in the slot loader or drive.

I have an elderly JVC dvd player; the videos appeared broken up, even the sound was in- consistant. i changed the batteries in the remote and tried several different DVDs, but no improvement.

Try either using a DVD/CD laser cleaning disc or if you are able to, open the case and manually clean the laser lens with a cotton swab. It may only be a dusty/dirty laser. If you choose to open up the DVD player, give all the internals a dust off with a clean household paint brush and a vacuum cleaner (*use care on both the laser lens and internals of the player to avoid damaging it). If this does not solve the corrupted image and audio, the laser may be at the end of it's life and the unit will need replacing.

My mp3-cd player reads no disc even though I have tried several cd's and not dvd's in it. Have a clue? Thanks!

Hi Kathy! If as you've said, after trying several CDs and DVDs and still to no avail, I would like to think it is that either the lens on your MP3-CD player's laser pick up is dirty (or clogged with dirt, other elements), or it may be defective (defectiveness may also include other parts or mechanism on the device). I suggest, try to clean the laser pick up with a Lens Cleaner set which you can buy in your local general or computer hardware stores. You can also try to gently blow on the laser pick up head or try to wipe it gently with a clean and dry soft cloth. I hope that could help solve your issue.

The television can read the DVD dis, in fact, it says that no disc is present.

These are the only methods you can do to try and remedy the problem yourself. Aside from these steps, the unit is in need of repair to have the laser lens assembly replaced.
You can try several methods of cleaning the laser lens to see if it helps clear up the problem. The first is to purchase a CD/DVD laser lens cleaner disc, and run it through the system several times.

If your player is not reading any discs at all though, then try purchasing a can of compressed air (available at Staples, or Wal-Mart). Open the CD drawer, or remove the cover of the player by removing the screws on the rear of the unit. Then spray the can approximately 10" from the lens to blow any dust off of it.

If it still doesn't work, you can opt to clean the lens eye itself, by using isopropyl alcohol, and a lint-free cloth to gently wipe the "eye". Then use a dry spot on the cloth to buff the eye clean. If the CD player is still not reading discs, then the lens or transport mechanism is faulty and would need to be replaced.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

It will read CD disk but will not read DVD disk have tried several different ones

how long have you been using this player? I suspect the laser (lens) of the player. I think the laser (lens) is weak that's why it cannot read data/files on DVD discs.

To confirm if actually its a laser problem, insert an Audio CD into the player and see if will play. If it plays, then obviously, your laser (lens) is weak. But if it doesn't play Audio CD, then it might still be the laser (lens) or a mechanism problem.

Get a lens cleaner, use it to clean the lens. If that doesn't solve the problem, get a screw driver, open the player's cover so that you can gain access to the lens, use a cotton board to clean the surface of the lens. This should clean dust or dirt that might be on the lens.

If non of the above solves the problem, then know that you need to replace the laser to a brand new one.

To replace the lens, remove the bad laser, use it as a sample to get exactly the same type and do the replacement. Note that replacing a laser (lens) needs a professional touch, so if you cannot replace the laser, get it to a repairman to fix it for you.

Once this us done, your player will play all DVD discs again.

Good luck.

The CD player is about 20 years olda and has worked fine until a few weeks ago. It does not play CD's now. We sprayed it with air to dust it. It worked again. The next time we tried it does not play...

Remove the top lid, you will need to expose the laser pickup assembly, dip a Q-Tip in rubbing alcohol, then carefully clean the laser plastic lens in a circular motion, allow several minutes to dry before using, failing that you may consider a new cd player.

CD not playable

It sounds to me like the laser lens itself may be damaged or even broken.

Here is something you can try though, this might just work if the laser lens has some dust particles stuck to it. Just go to your nearest cd shop and buy yourself a laser lens cleaner disc, it is cheap.

Follow the instructions, and if the laser lens itself was dirty, this will help, otherwise the laser lens might be broken, which is a ver common problem, cause you used it for three years now.

Hope this can steer you in the right direction.

Kind regards

Looks like the lens of the player is dirty or damaged. Try a lens cleaner CD first.
If it doesn't work then you will have to get the lens replaced. Since the Player is still under warranty use while you still can..

No Disk

There are several causes for this problem.

1) Faulty DVD drive. Most drives have a dual laser, one for CD, and one for DVD. Check the player with both CD, and DVD. If it reads one and not the other, then it is most certainly a faulty laser. The laser assembly or whole mechanism will need changing.

2) Dirty or dusty lens. If the unit is kept in a dust environment, dust and dirt can be drawn into the machine by the fan. Try using a DVD lens cleaner. If this doesn't work try a CD lens cleaner. (Dual laser - see 1))

3) Condensation. Condensation can build up on the laser lens if the unit is kept in a humid environment. Also, this can be caused by a cold environment. In this case, condensation forms as the unit warms up. In either case, leave the unit in a warm dry environment for an hour.
