  1. Press the Menu/Set key.
  2. Press the up or down navigation key until TEST PRINT appears on the LCD.
  3. Press Fax Start. The DCP/MFC begins printing the Print Quality Test Sheet.
  4. By reviewing this Test Sheet, you can determine if the print quality or alignment needs improvement or adjustment.
StepA - Checking the print quality:
  1. The display will read "IS STEP "A" OK?" 1.YES 2. NO.
Before choosing YES or NO, closely examine the print quality of the four color blocks that are formed by short diagonal lines on the Test Sheet.
If all lines are clear and visible, press 1 (YES) and proceed to StepB. If you can see missing short lines, press 2 (NO).

  2. The display will then ask you if the print quality is OK for each color. Press 2(NO) for any color with the problem.

  3. The display will then show START CLEANING? 1.YES 2. NO.
Press 1(YES) and the DCP/MFC will start cleaning the color ink cartridges.

  4. After the cleaning is finished, press Fax Start. The DCP/MFC will print another Print Quality Test Sheet.

  5. If you can see missing short lines in any of the four color blocks press 2 (NO) and repea the quality check and cleaning process. Repeat this procedure at least 5 times if print quality remains a problem. If short lines are still missing after the fifth cleaning and test print, replace the necessary ink cartridges. If the print quality of the 4 color blocks is OK, press 1 (YES).
StepB - Setting the Alignment:
  1. The display will then read "IS STEP "B" OK?".

  2. Examine the 600 DPI and 1200 DPI test prints on the Print Quality Test Sheet. If the number 5 sample of both the 600 DPI and 1200 DPI most closely matches the 0 sample, press 1(YES).
If one of the other samples is a better match for the 0 sample, press 2 (NO). The display will then prompt you to select the sample that most closely matches the 0 sample for 600 DPI and then 1200 DPI.

  3. Print another Print Quality Test Sheet by following the steps provided at the top of this page and check it.

  4. Press Stop/Exit.

Where do the ink cartriges on a brother mfc 5460cn fo

Your machine is equipped with an ink dot

counter. The ink dot counter automatically

monitors the level of ink in each of the 4

cartridges. When the machine detects an ink

cartridge is running out of ink, the machine

will tell you with a message on the LCD.

The LCD will tell you which ink cartridge is low

or needs replacing. Be sure to follow the LCD

prompts to replace the ink cartridges in the

correct order.

Even though the machine tells you that an ink

cartridge is empty, there will be a small

amount of ink left in the ink cartridge. It is

necessary to keep some ink in the ink

cartridge to prevent air from drying out and

damaging the print head assembly.

a Open the ink cartridge cover.

If one or more ink cartridges are empty,

for example Black, the LCD shows

Ink Empty Black and

Replace Ink.

b Pull the lock release lever down and

take out the ink cartridge for the color
shown on the LCD.

c Open the new ink cartridge bag for the

color shown on the LCD, and then take

out the ink cartridge.
d Remove the protective yellow cap (1).

Note

If the protective yellow caps come off

when you open the bag, the cartridge will

not be damaged.

e Each color has its own correct position.

Insert the ink cartridge in the direction of

the arrow on the label.

f Lift each lock release lever and push it

until it clicks, and then close the ink

cartridge cover.

g If you replaced an ink cartridge, the LCD

may ask you to verify that it was a brand

new one. (For example,

Did You Change Blck?) For each

new cartridge you installed, press 1

(Yes) to automatically reset the ink dot

counter for that color. If the ink cartridge

you installed is not a brand new one, be

sure to press 2 (No).

If you wait until the LCD shows

Near Empty and Ink Empty, the
machine will automatically.

Keeps saying install c

Hello,

When the printer says "install C" it is referring to the Cyan (blue) ink cartridge. If this is not a new cartridge, you might have to replace it. If this is a new cartridge, try following these steps.

1. Unplug the power cable.
2. Remove all 4 ink cartridges.
3. Close the ink cover
4. Plug the power back in.
5. Wait for the machine to warm up and tell you that the ink is empty.
6. Reinsert all 4 ink cartridges.

If you keep getting the same message you should try another cartridge. You can put the yellow cartridge in the blue spot to see if you get the same message. If you get the same message then the machine is broken. If you get a new message then the cyan cartridge needs to be changed.

Thanks,

Pat

How do I change the toner?

The Fax-2480c does not use toner cartridges.
This is an inkjet and so uses ink cartridges.

There are 4 cartridges, black, yellow, cyan (blue) and magenta (red). If any of these cartridges are empty, you need replace them.

This machine takes LC-51 cartridges.
You're probably out of warranty so jsut get refills... it's cheaper

Cartrdige replace problem

One of your colour cartridges will be empty. Check them and replace if empty. Turn the machine off then on and it should display which one it is. Its bug in the machines software when two cartridges run out at the same time and only fisrt one displays as out, then the second reads as no cartridge because it is that empty.

Cartridge not recognized

Yes. Unplug machine from power. Wait 5 minutes. open scanner and take all the carts out. close scanner. plug machine to power again. machine will do the start up cleaning. Machine demands carts. insert NEW carts and give the answer in case you are asked by machine.

Do only change the carts when machine stopps for EMPTY cart. As long as it shows Nearly Empty everything is alright.

The machine has a drop counter and counts the ink drops down to zero when the flag is raised within the (nearly) empty carts. In case you take them out at that moment and reinsert again the ink inside will splash and raise the flag again. Control logic will be in trouble....
