I have a Samsung SMH9187 about three-four years old I think. It does not heat -- everything else works. When turned on it at first makes a grinding type noise and sparks can be seen inside where the motor...

The magnetron won't make a grinding noise so that makes it sound like the fan motor bearings are bad. However if it doesn't heat, that sounds like the magnetron.

Samsung SMH9151W stopped working. Possible Magnetron issue.

Test the thermostat to see if its open, this should be closed. If ok (I think it would be) replace the magnetron, this is common issue with all brand of microwaves. Magnetrons can fail or weaken over time and depending upon frequency of use. I hope this helps.

Samsung mt1044bb Microwave turns on by itself

If this is case that the turn table works on its own , you need to be sure if the MICROWAVE POWER is ON... This is dangerous and if so the circuit must be checked for shorting to switch on the magnetron and motor. Please take extreme care to handle this section. disconnect power to magnetron to check the motor circuit, possible the drive to the motor is short.

Samsung CE245g microwave doen't heat

Either the diode most use, the large filter cap, the inverter which drives the Magnetron that does the heating or the Magnetron itself.

Doesn't heat

If the food is not being heated you will need to have the oven checked by a service center technician.
Your oven has a device called a magnetron which generates microwaves which heat the food.
It could be the magnetron itself which is faulty or another component which works alongside the magnetron.

Best wishes,

Samsung smh7178std won't heat, replaced fuses, connections, tested transformer, tested capasitor,

probably the magnetron could also be the diode on the capaciter. they have a 7 year warranty on the magnetron.

pull your magnetron connector out and clean the both pins with alcohols or a metal cleaner and then fix it again and use. magnetron will work surely.

Does'nt heat up

HI. in most cases, this will lead to a failed Heating device(magnetron tube). It would be wise to check the Magnetron cutoff fuse to be sure of its integrity. if the fuse is blown, simply replace it. if the fuse continues to show continuity, replace the magnetron.

(((The fuse is located inside the unit along side the magnetron)))

Microwave doesn't heat anything

You are 100% correct in your guess of the magnetron is bad and is need of being replaced. You do have to verify that the mounting bracket is the same and preferrably of the same wattage that was installed or of a higher value if you are replacing it from another microwave that was discarded. The magnetron is usually built very well so most microwaves that are tossed are due to the control panel display and not the the magnetron tube assembly.
The best bet would be to purchase the same model # magnetron that was removed from the oven if you are doing it yourself.

Lights flash and crazy display

(If yours is not a Samsung, please reply back with your brand and model!)

Sadly, we hear of this over and over.

This is due to a defective or loose magnetron causing electrical interference and disruption in the control circuit board.

If your magnetron was recently replaced, it may have loose mounting nuts or bolts or maybe the wire mesh RF gasket was not installed or got pinched.

It may also need a new high-voltage diode and stirrer, and the cavity may be affected.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical information on safety, disassembly and door switches at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.

If it's within the magnetron portion of the warranty (usually 5-9 years) but out of the original full warranty (usually 1 year), then your manufacturer will cover the part cost, but not the cost to visit you or the labor charge to do the work.

They may even send you a replacement magnetron.

You can order Samsung parts here. You can find your nearest Samsung-authorized service center here.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.
