Hi,

It is possible that your Garmin 660 is having a glitch. This could be attributed to a possible firmware corruption.

Possible corrective methods are:

  • Hard reset (unit will revert to factory default which of course would mean user settings and configurations might and would be erased);
  • firmware upgrade.
Hard Reset is performed in the Maintenance Mode:
  1. Turn your Nuvi unit off, remove any SD cards from the SD card slot and make sure that the unit is not plugged into any computer.
  2. Place a fingertip on the upper left hand corner of the touch screen andkeep it there while turning the unit on, a prompt should read " Do youreally want to start in maintenance mode?"
  3. Select the yes button.
  4. Enter your PIN if enabled.
  5. Main Maintenance Mode screen should have 4 selections:
  • System information
  • View Diagnostics
  • Clear User data
  • Clear Waypoints
  1. Choose "Clear Waypoints". After some time the unit should reboot. As to firmware upgrade:
Upgrading firmware:
  1. click on Garmin's site
  2. download, install and run "WebUpdater"
  3. Follow on screen instructions.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Edge 305 giving inconsistent and inaccurate elevation readings. everything else is cool. any thoughts?

Same for me very often.
I think this is due to starting a road without waiting long enough that sattelites are acquired.

In fact 3 sattellites allow to compute position, 4 are necessary to compute position plus altitude.

Accuracy of position and altitude is much better from 5 sattellites acquired.

So I advise to start your device OUTDOORS, in an open place (not near walls as it masks sattellites) and wait until screen automatically moves to run mode, meaning enough sattellites are acquired.
You will get better chances to have a good accuracy.

Also on Garmin connect site, when you load your ride, you can correct altitudes automatically using real maps.

My garmin 350nuvi will not acquire sattelites

Make sure to flip your antenna horizontally or 90 degrees and not vertically or 180 dgrees. I see to many people try to use their older nuvi this way and it does not function well.
Try also updating your unit with the latest firmware from Garmin, this helps sometimes.
You may have moved to a location that is far away from the last location your Garmin nuvi 350 was last use, try to keep your unit on for 30 minutes or more to see if it will acquire GPS sattelites.
Last, certain vehicles have shielded windshields and GPS does not work well with these windshield, this can be eaisly verify by simply taking your nuvi 350 out of your vehicle and turn it on with a clear view to the sky, if that still does not work, it could be a defective GPS receiver or GPS connection in which case you should consider sending it in to Auto Nav 2000 Plus, Inc in San Jose CA or Garmin.
You may also consider replacing your nuvi 350 with a newer model nuvi with fresher map.

Good luck

Update/Reload your unit's GPS and sytem software via Garmin page or use Web Updater. Your unit will be functioning again. This problem also occurs if you leave your unit on a dash board in a car and it is exposed to hight temperature.

Not acquire sattelites

place the GPS outside with a clear 360 degree view of sky or as much of the horizon as possible and leave it for a few hours it needs to download the almanac from all satellites before doing this

from the Acquiring Satellite page press menu and make sure that the topline of the menu reads "Use With GPS off" if it reads "Use With GPS on" (this means it will not find any SAT's ie for indoor use) press enter to turn the GPS Receiver on
