My GE JES1036WF001 microwave starts up when I open the door - light goes on, turntable turns, fan goes. Is the magnetron on? It still cooks fine when the door is shut - I've been unplugging it, put in the food, plug it in, hit keypad to cook, unplug, remove food. Thanks for any advice!

The door switch and safety switch is not adjusted correctly or is not operating at all.

SOURCE: Microwave does not heat food placed in the center of the turntable. Leaves a cold spot in the middle of the food.

This is normal. That's why I always recommend to my customers that the food be placed slightly off-center on the turntable. An analogy I refer to is stirring paint: If you stir paint with a stick by simply rotating the stick in the center of the can, it's far less effective than pulling the stick around an imaginary circle halfway bewteen the center and the edge.

SOURCE: sANYO EM-D9550. Turntable turns when off but not when cooking.

That's sounds pretty strange!

Since I don't have any service data on Sanyos, I'd have to speculate.

I would guess that one scenario that could cause it would be if the turntable were turned off via the control panel, but there was a switch or switch mount problem.

I would refer you to their support people:

SOURCE: Microwave turns on, but no heat or turntable movement

The problem is that the magnatron is not getting power. Chance is that if could be a bolwn fuse inside the unit. If the fuse don't fix it then that leaves the charging diode, capacitor or the magnatron, or high voltage xformer of which without technical epertize I would not recomend attempting to replace. good luck

SOURCE: GE XL1800 Micro fan won't shut off after light burned out

The problem appears, at least in part, to the door latch circuitry which cannot be serviced by the owner. If the unit is still in warranty, call GE customer care. If not, replacing the unit is your best bet. I just bought a new GE 1100 watt oven with great features for less than $100 If the door dosen't latch correctly, you could be exposed to dangerous microwave energy.

Why does the fan and turn table run when door is opened - ge microwave

I'd be AWFULLY NERVOUS about that - you don't know if the magnetron is also generating microwaves. If it IS, it can give you cataracts and/or blind you.

GE Microwave (JVM1860CD001) control board buzzes.

see this causes and fix it. God bless you
Magnetron If the microwave is loud or noisy only when cooking, the magnetron tube might be defective. The magnetron uses high voltage, high current DC power to generate the microwave frequency that cooks the food. Under normal circumstances the magnetron is nearly silent. However if it is damaged or nearly burned out it can begin emitting high pitched or growling noises. It's not normally dangerous to use a microwave oven when it makes these noises, but they are an indication that the magnetron is almost dead and will need to be replaced.
Exhaust Fan Motor If the microwave is loud when running the fan motor might be
Stirrer Motor If the microwave is loud or noisy the stirrer motor might be worn out. The stirrer is a metal blade which slowly turns around, deflecting the microwave energy in a random pattern inside the microwave oven. As the motor nears the end of its useful life it begins to make grinding noises. The microwave will not heat food evenly without this stirrer, the motor should be replaced.
Turntable Motor If the microwave is loud or noisy the turntable motor might be worn out. This is a common problem and relatively easy to replace.

Are there any recalls on GE microwave JVM1540DN1ww Thanks, [email protected]

There are no recalls on GE over the range microwave JVM1540DN1WW but there SHOULD BE! Mine lasted only a year and a half and then started running and heating with the door open. Shortly after that it stopped heating at all. The light and fan works, and the keyboard lights up but the turntable doesn't turn anymore (yes I made sure the turntable was turned on), and it doesn't heat. It will count down like it's heating but it doesn't heat. Changing the door switches didn't work. Husband thinks it is the magnetron which is expensive to fix. I won't ever buy another GE microwave period! Check the web and you will see all the similar complaints. I just searched online and for a lesser price than I paid for the GE, Samsung sells one that has the one year warranty but also has a 10 year warranty on the magnetron.

GE Microwave won't heat or cook - one year old

More than likely the magnetron has failed. This could be for a number of reason. Do you use your microwave to heat wheat packs or warm plates? If so, you may have dried the magnetron out (they use the moisture in whatever you're cooking to heat it, and plates/wheat bags have no moisture).

I'd say a trip to your local Microwave repairer could be in order. It could also be the High Voltage Fuse which has failed. Either way a repairer will be able to tell you!

Microwave works with door open

If the top is open, the upper door switch should be open and the high voltage section should not be energized. That's the way it's *supposed* to work. But that buzzing is worrysome! Does the turntable turn during this condition? Does the inside light come on? How about the fan? If not, then I would doubt that it's cooking. If so, some models will do this. It's not uncommon to notice that the fan and light will try to come on for a split second when you shut the door. This would not indicate a problem. It has to do with the timing of the door switches and a replay on the board. If it's still under full warranty, it wouldn't hurt to call a GE-authorized servicer.
