Help my washer wont fill with cold water

The problem isnt the hose i disconnected from washer and the cold water fills fine from the hose, the problem is that the hot water flows into the tub but not the cold, nor does it sound like it is even trying to so sounds like it simply goes dead at that point will fill with hot though if i put it on the hot cycle.please help me, i have called numerous repairmen who want to charge me 200 plus even one guy said 400 it is a gallery frigedaire model number glws1349as1 and i think it may be the water valve when i looked up the part itself to replace it showed both the hot water and cold water valve as one unit, however the hot water is fine, just the cold water filler is out of commission...helllllllllllllllllllp thank you so much, Tamara

yes thank you ya know i did that just to be sure, we have had a ton of sedement probs here in the neighborhood, i cleaned out the screen at the cold water valve at the washer, ya know the thing doesnt attempt to fill on cold nor does it hum, just silence, the only sound is my blood pressure pumping blood to my brain when i think of all the money i can ill afford to have someone come out and fixer up. i have however switched the hoses at the wall hot to cold and cold to hot, in order to get any water to fill, i set my washer to warm wash with warm rinse, i forgot to do that at first and went to put in unrinsed wash when the cycle was done, thank goodness this washer has a warm/warm setting and of course it was cold/cold with the hot water hose from the washer attached to the cold water valve at the wallfaucet....holy cow, i do have a new respect for repairmen, thank you so much ya know i didnt pay over 215 for the washer and i think to pay out 200 to fix it not happening, i had one gal tell me their guys would charge 400 to come out and change that part out which costs no more than 25 bucks. i am going to order it and do it myself. my sister found a site for the actual repair manual and another site to show me step by step with pictures(dont laugh I am a girly girl) so i can do it myself. wish me luck,if not at least i might get a free permanent outta the whole deal !!sending a hug thank you for getting back to me so quickly you are wonderful and kind to have done this for me....sincerely, Tamara

Hot water fills very slow(30 MIN OR MORE TO FILL) good water flow from spicket to washer, screens are clear. sewems to be something with the washer its self

Might be a bad inlet valve. To confirm, swap the hot and cold hoses to your washer so that the cold water feeds the hot water connection and the hot water feeds the cold water connection. Turn off both hot and cold water faucets. Set the washer for a warm water wash. Turn on the cold water faucet, and check the flow. Then turn off the cold water faucet, and turn on the hot water faucet and check the flow. If the cold water flow fill slowly, then the problem is with the inlet valve.

It an easy part to obtain from an appliance supply house. To install disconnect the hoses to the back of the machine, and remove the back panel to get access to the valve. Should only take a couple of minutes to remove and install. Hope this helps you.

Cold water trickles into the tub while it is being filled up

The hot and cold water supply hoses that connect the washer from the water supply faucets on the wall to the water connections on the back of the clothes washer usually have filter / sediment screens within there connection fittings at the end of the hoses, these will collect dirt, sand, calcium deposits, etc.,when they trap enough of these materials they will plug up and restrict the flow of water into the clothes washer. Turn off the water faucets at the wall, and you should do this for both hot and cold hoses, disconnect the hoses from the washer and the water faucets, look into the hose ends and pull out the screens and clean them out by running water and what ever you can use to clean them completely!!!!!
Now look inside the water connections on the back of the clothes washer, where you screw the hoses on the washer, and check to see if there are filter screens in there, if there is, remove them and clean out completely also, then reverse the removal process and reconnect the hoses, makeing sure to connect the hot and cold hoses to the right connection on the back of the clothes washer!!
Try filling the washer with water to see if you have corrected the problem.
Make sure hot and cold hoses are correct on the back of the washer!!!!
GOOD LUCK !!!!!!

I got an error message flashing F H during the rinse cycle the water, both hot and cold are turned on all the way.

"FH" stands for "fill hose" and means there is a problem related to water getting into the washer. Disconnect both water hoses and check for junk in the filter screens built into the water valve. You'll see them when you disconnect the hoses. Also make completely sure that both the hot and cold water is turned on. The problem could also be with the flow meter. The flow meter is an electronic device in the water supply area that lets the control board know how much water is flowing into the tub from the water valve. It's possible there is a problem with that. It's flat and about 2 inches round. It's in the top left rear corner of the washer near the water valve.

Why is there only hot water going in the washing machine?

the cold water valve is stuck shut inside washer.
Servicing Water Inlet ValvesIf the washer won't fill or fills very slowly, if it overfills, or if the water is the wrong temperature, the water inlet valves could be faulty. These components are easy to locate and very easy to replace, at little cost. When you suspect an inlet valve is faulty, first check to make sure the water faucets are fully turned on and properly connected to the hot and cold inlets of the valves. Then check the screens in the valves; if they're clogged, clean or replace them. If water doesn't enter the tub, set the temperature control to the HOT setting. If there is no water, set the control to the WARM setting. If all that comes out is cold water, the hot-water inlet valve is faulty. Reverse the procedure to test the cold-water valve, setting the control first on COLD and then on WARM. If the tub overfills, unplug the washer. If water still flows into the tub, the valve is stuck open. In any of these cases, the valves should probably be replaced. To check the valve assembly:

how-to-repair-a-washing-machine-2.jpg

Step 1: Remove the back service panel and disconnect the hot-water and cold-water hoses to the valves.

Step 2: Remove the hoses connected to the valves inside the cabinet. Also disconnect the wires from the terminals. Back out the screws holding the valves to the machine. The inlet valves have solenoids (a coil of wire that carries a current) inside the housing. These can be tested, but chances are the valves are simply worn out.

Step 3: Tap the solenoids with a screwdriver handle. If this doesn't work, replace the entire inlet valve assembly. Repairs usually cost more than a new part. Make sure the replacement valve assembly is exactly the same type as the old one. Install it in reverse order of the way you disconnected the old one.

I can't get the cold water to fill the tub/rinse. the hot works.

Your problem is either a clogged COLD fill valve or a bad water fill valve. Turn the water off. Remove the COLD hose from the WASHER. Check the filter screen inside the valve for sediment. If you find sediment, remove the screen and clean it. Replace the screen and turn the water back on. If you do not find sediment on the screen, replace the water valve.

Very slow cold water fill, why?

First make sure that you have adequate water flow from the hose bib coming from the wall. You can do this by turning off your cold water connection at the wall, then disconnect the cold water hose. Then turn the faucet on and make sure the water flows freely. The most common reason for your problem is a clogged screen where the cold water hose connects to the back of the washer. To check this, disconnect the cold hose from the back of the washer and clean the small screen inside the cold water inlet on the washer.

HOT WATER WON'T FILL TUB

most inlet water hoses have screens in them.  You could remove the hose from the back of the washer and see if there is water flow.   If there isn't, the hot water valve assembly is defective.  These are solenoid operated valves that admit water into the tub.  They can be accessed behind the washer after you remove the back.

Hot Water won't fill

I like to put the hose over in the tub and run some water just to eliminate plumbing problems from that point back. Then, I check the inside of the water valve where the hose connects which you have done. If all this is ok the only thing left is to replace the water valve. I have had some success taking the water valve apart and cleaning it out. About 2 out of 10 will start working but most require replacing.
