Help my washer wont fill with cold water

The problem isnt the hose i disconnected from washer and the cold water fills fine from the hose, the problem is that the hot water flows into the tub but not the cold, nor does it sound like it is even trying to so sounds like it simply goes dead at that point will fill with hot though if i put it on the hot cycle.please help me, i have called numerous repairmen who want to charge me 200 plus even one guy said 400 it is a gallery frigedaire model number glws1349as1 and i think it may be the water valve when i looked up the part itself to replace it showed both the hot water and cold water valve as one unit, however the hot water is fine, just the cold water filler is out of commission...helllllllllllllllllllp thank you so much, Tamara

yes thank you ya know i did that just to be sure, we have had a ton of sedement probs here in the neighborhood, i cleaned out the screen at the cold water valve at the washer, ya know the thing doesnt attempt to fill on cold nor does it hum, just silence, the only sound is my blood pressure pumping blood to my brain when i think of all the money i can ill afford to have someone come out and fixer up. i have however switched the hoses at the wall hot to cold and cold to hot, in order to get any water to fill, i set my washer to warm wash with warm rinse, i forgot to do that at first and went to put in unrinsed wash when the cycle was done, thank goodness this washer has a warm/warm setting and of course it was cold/cold with the hot water hose from the washer attached to the cold water valve at the wallfaucet....holy cow, i do have a new respect for repairmen, thank you so much ya know i didnt pay over 215 for the washer and i think to pay out 200 to fix it not happening, i had one gal tell me their guys would charge 400 to come out and change that part out which costs no more than 25 bucks. i am going to order it and do it myself. my sister found a site for the actual repair manual and another site to show me step by step with pictures(dont laugh I am a girly girl) so i can do it myself. wish me luck,if not at least i might get a free permanent outta the whole deal !!sending a hug thank you for getting back to me so quickly you are wonderful and kind to have done this for me....sincerely, Tamara

Washer filling problem

Check to hose to the water level control. It goes from the outside of the tub up to the control which is located in the same area as the timer. It's usually round with the end of that tube and at least 2 wires connected to it. Disconnect the hose and blow air through it. Reconnect and try again. Still no fill, try filling with that tube disconnected. Watch it the entire time as with the tube off the water should not stop. If it fills all the way with the tube off the water control unit has a problem.

Water wont go in washer when on cold /cold or warm cold but will fill on hot cycle. Only cold water is connected. i dont even have hot hose connected---has worked fine for a year on cold/cold. Now has a...

The inlet valve on the cold water inlet is clogged, dirty or jammed. You need to remove the inlet valve and clean the valve and filter. use back flushing with brushing to clean the filter.
the hum you hear is of the coil working but is not opening to allow water into the system.
Also you can switch the inlet valve from the hot line if needed .
check this link for removing the inlet valve:

Washer wont fill up during rinse cycle

all rinse cycles are filled with cold water to keep the clothes from wrinkling.set up the washer to run with just cold water.start it,if no water comes into washer, shut down your house water valve that fills the washer, take off the cold water hose, stick it in the washer or if there's a sink or where ever and turn on the water,if water comes out of the hose then you need a new water valve on the washer

Cold water fills very slowly

Turn off the water, remove the cold water hose at the back of the washer ... inside you will find a hose washer with a screen on it - remove and replace it. I believe you will discover the screen is clogged. While you have the hose disconnected, run some water into a bucket from the hose to clean it as well.

Very slow cold water fill, why?

First make sure that you have adequate water flow from the hose bib coming from the wall. You can do this by turning off your cold water connection at the wall, then disconnect the cold water hose. Then turn the faucet on and make sure the water flows freely. The most common reason for your problem is a clogged screen where the cold water hose connects to the back of the washer. To check this, disconnect the cold hose from the back of the washer and clean the small screen inside the cold water inlet on the washer.

Water is not filling up.

turn off water
disconnect fill hose from tap
examine screen inside hose end for 'muck' blockage
clean screen
reconnect hose
test washer
if no fill
replace water solenoid valve

note: cold water valve fails first, it gets most use,
if only using cold water, you can simply swap the hot and cold hoses at the tap, and swap the hot and cold electrical connectors on the solenoid valves, the hot solenoid is no the cold one and the washer can be used, cold only, for about as long as it has operated thus far..
