1. Ensure the USB port is 2.0
2. Connect the drive directly to the USB port on the computer system. Do not connect the drive to a USB Hub
3. Try a different USB port on your system
4. Disconnect all other USB devices except a keyboard or mouse.

You need to ensure you are using the recommended media list.
2. Make sure the drive is listed okay in Device Manager. To ensure this, right click My Computer/Properties/Hardware/Device Manager. You should have a listing here for optical drive. Double click on the optical drive and make sure there are no yellow ! marks on the drive.
3. Get the latest Firmware updates available for your drive.
4. Make sure your System/Nero ASPI files are not corrupt. Go to Nero/Nero tool kit/Nero info tool. Click on the ASPI tab. In the arrow down tab, check both your system and Nero ASPI files. At the bottom, it should display ASPI is installed and working properly. If it does not, please get the latest ASPI update.

1. Make sure the power cable connect properly.
2. Try sticking a pin in the little hole next to the eject button on the drive. This resets the reset button for the drive to open again.

How do you transfer

You need a capture card already in your computer (or a simply IEEE 1394 or a USB 2.0 port) depending on the quality of video you want. Then you need a capture program. For a low price, b ut still decent quality program you can use Adobe's Premiere. I like Premiere because it's VERY user friendly and a quick learning curve. Once you have the video captured (be sure you have enough disk space on your HDD (I have 4TB in external drives for video editing)) edit it how you want the final product to look, export the video to an AVI, open your Authoring program (I suggest 2 different angles: 1 (for EASY) either WinAVI or Nero VIsion, super simple program but the quality is lacking, or 2 (for the creative) Adobe Encore, high quality but it takes a little time to learn the software. Create a DVD Folder from Encore or any authoring software, burn thr folder using your Burn Software (i like Nero 7). Boom, you have a DVD.

DVDS burn failure

Mmmm... to hard to know what is happening, as many things in computers that problem could come from many sides.

First advice: USE NERO (JUST NERO) its the best for windows.
You can get NERO for free on the net, at least just a trial version.

Second advive: make sure you have at least 512 MB of RAM
enough free HD space at lease 5 giga for a DVD.

Do this first to ensure your problem is not the software youre using... I will assume at this point that your operative system is running perfectly, because if not, your problem is just there.
And I will also assume your CD/DVD unit is 100% OK... otherwise nothing will help.

Install NERO and try burning at a low speed (8 maximum)

if you have problems... I would need much more information on this matter and you might need to spend money in a new recorder.

Need device drivers

You do not need any device drivers for this drive to work, you just connect to a USB 2.0 port using the usb cable or a USB 1.1, although this is a little slower. The software that is supplied with the writer is burning/authoring software programme, so you would have to download a free cd/dvd burning programme(just do a google search) or purchase one. Nero burning software is supplied with the unit, but as for playing dvd's you have windows media player for that.
