Remove the top cover, remove the spark plug, if you have a spark tester conect it to the ht leed, if not connect the spark plug back to the cap, rest it on top of the cylinder, make sure it is away from the spark plug hole, switch the ignition switch on, crank the engine as if starting, there should be a reasonable spark at the plug,

My Poulan 18in 40 cc WildThing ChainSaw Won't Start.

Start with basic tests, drain the fuel tank and fill with fresh fuel oil mix, remove and reolace the fuel filter on the edn of the fuel hose, check the fuel hose up to the carb for leaks, remove the spark plug, rest it on the side of the cylinder ( away from the plug hole ) cramk the engine and check if you have a spark.

I hve a Poulon wildthing and I am geting no spark . It is about 4 yrs. old and I cut about 2 cords of wood a year. This year it started . then quit, to start no more. Now it refuses to start.... no spark....

You don't provide a model number. Wildthings come in various engine sizes and configurations. Given your description it is almost certainly a bad coil, but might also be a defective switch or interconnecting wiring. Try this first: It tests all parts.

You may need to use a jumper wire between the threaded part of the plug and the cooling fins. You don’t have to bend up the electrode.
Still no spark, coil is bad. You can find an IPL (Exploded Parts List) for your saw here: (LE is code for Wildthing)

The dash number of your serial number is the type.
The one I chose 1 at random follows:

"Engine Assembly Type 2" detail page, item 8, pn 530039198, $24.14 each. This may not be your saw!!!

my name is Dennis Gladx and I can assist you with the problem of getting the sprocket off of the crankshaft of your chainsaw.

To remove the centrifugal clutch and sprocket you unscrew it from the crankshaft and it has a left hand thread. Also a little trick to remove anything from a crankshaft that could turn while you want to unscrew the item, Remove the spark plug and insert some rope into the cylinder for the piston to squeeze against and you will jam the piston without damage.

Glad to be of assistance Please rate this solution because I can learn from your rating. Thank you

You can get the part from Poulan parts and it will take about 15 minutes to fix the first time eight minutes the second time. In addition I might add that to remove the centrifugal clutch and the sprocket, it unscrews from the crankshaft with a left hand thread.
