A lot of these Ex 4.0 have defective cutter motors. The arm that the cutter is attached to passes by a sensor that tells the machine when the cutter is at the rest position. And what is happening is that the arm is no longer in place to tell the sensor where it is, and it stops short of the rest position. This part is covered by PFAFF for a 5 year period. You'll just have to have a PFAFF dealer install it and pay a labor charge.

I have a pfaff expression 4.0 and can’t find how to change the tension

This machine has an electronic thread tension control. You'll only be able to adjust the tension for the current stitch, until you turn off the machine or change your stitch selection. Press the Setting button and use the Up/Down arrows on the wheel to get the move the setting selection box on the Thread tension line, if needed. Use the Left/Right arrows on the wheel to increase or decrease the tension. Press OK (the center of the wheel) to save this tension. Test the tension on a scrap of your project and repeat the steps until the thread tension is appropriate for the project. Press Info when in the sewing mode to see the current thread tension.

The manual for the Pfaff Quilt Expression 4.0 (and a couple of other models in the Expression line) is available from Pfaff here: http://www.pfaff.com/SiteMedia/PFAFF/Products/Machines/Support-manuals/expression_2_3_4-manual-EN.pdf?ext=.pdf . See page 2:16 (page 28 of the PDF) for the details. Pages 2:10-2:11 show the buttons for the Expression 4.0.

I hope this helps.

Pfaff quilt expression 4.2 thread tension issue

Thread tension in this machine is set electronically to vary by type of stitch. There is also an alert light pertaining to the bobbin.

The first link also offers a further link to an online guide. That said, as the tension is electronically controlled and if any sort of fine tuning is required, that would likely require a trip to a service center. Hopefully, one of the videos provided by the links above will be helpful

Pfaff quilt expressions 4.2- thread jam error but there is no jam

THe Pfaff QE4.2 is a nice machine. You must be sure you are using it correctly. Damage to the machine can result if you are not following the operation manual correctly.

If the bobbin is dropped in spinning in the wrong direction, birds nesting will result. If you have poorly wound bobbins the machine will perform very poorly. If you try to use the incorrect bobbins you have trouble. This machine may need to be cleaned serviced, and adjusted to factory specs to perform to expectation.

I use a Pfaff Performance 5.0 I used to have a QE 4.0. SUper nice machines!

What number is satin stitch on Piaf quilt expressions 4.0

A satin stitch is simply a zig-zag stitch that is shortened enough so the threads lay next to each other without laying over another but also without any space (fabric) showing between. Keep in mind that the thread weight will cause the satin stitch to differ.

this is a known issue with the pfaff.....i have just bought the machine and it has thread uptake issues...thread tension issues and it comes unthreaded by itself often...leaving globs of thread on the bottom stuck in the feed dogs and under the throat plate.....then the stitches are not properly balanced because the tension gets too loose on the bobbin thread....very disappointed to find out it is a known issue with all the viking husqvarna made machines...which are pfaff, janome and viking.....sux.
