Question about Kenmore 73502 / 73504 / 73509 Bottom Freezer Refrigerator
Kenmore 253 BA53028306 refrigerator with freezer above.
Water appears on kitchen floor sporadically. There is a plastic reservoir full of water wrapped around the compressor unit. Water warm and clear, no scum. I think this is overflowing at times since it is nearly full.
Is the reservoir intended to evaporate excess water? Why is it not keeping up, and how can I encourage it?
During very humid conditions you will get this problem many times due to door on refrigerator being opened much more than normal and maybe gaskets are not as pliable as they once were. Just be happy you have this problem instead of defrost circuit not working at all as that is a very costly alternative. Just empty and check weekly.

first of all the noise is the internal compressor motor hitting the steel shell on shut down. in my experience this is annoying and not really a huge concern as far as the compressor dying any time soon. now your drain problem. i would recomend the wire or heat probe that whirlpool recomends. when your freezer defrosts the water that drips off of the coil can and will flash freeze in the drain area causing it to freeze up a peice of 10 or 12 guage solid copper wire run into the drain and wrapped around your def heater will transfer enough heat into the drain hole to prevent it from freezing up.
fwiw: whirlpool in my opinion is probably one of the best appliances on the market..

Cut off a piece of line and go to a good hardware store, they can show you how to fix it. Need a coupling, and a nut and ferrel. House water line goes on one end of coupling, nut and ferrel on the broken water line on fridge. A good hardware store will be able to show you how to fix.
