Water reservoir around compressor full and overflowing Kenmore 253

Kenmore 253 BA53028306 refrigerator with freezer above.
Water appears on kitchen floor sporadically. There is a plastic reservoir full of water wrapped around the compressor unit. Water warm and clear, no scum. I think this is overflowing at times since it is nearly full.

Is the reservoir intended to evaporate excess water? Why is it not keeping up, and how can I encourage it?

During very humid conditions you will get this problem many times due to door on refrigerator being opened much more than normal and maybe gaskets are not as pliable as they once were. Just be happy you have this problem instead of defrost circuit not working at all as that is a very costly alternative. Just empty and check weekly.

SOURCE: Loud banging noise and water leaking

first of all the noise is the internal compressor motor hitting the steel shell on shut down. in my experience this is annoying and not really a huge concern as far as the compressor dying any time soon. now your drain problem. i would recomend the wire or heat probe that whirlpool recomends. when your freezer defrosts the water that drips off of the coil can and will flash freeze in the drain area causing it to freeze up a peice of 10 or 12 guage solid copper wire run into the drain and wrapped around your def heater will transfer enough heat into the drain hole to prevent it from freezing up.

fwiw: whirlpool in my opinion is probably one of the best appliances on the market..

SOURCE: water line broken for Kenmore refrigerator near compressor

Cut off a piece of line and go to a good hardware store, they can show you how to fix it. Need a coupling, and a nut and ferrel. House water line goes on one end of coupling, nut and ferrel on the broken water line on fridge. A good hardware store will be able to show you how to fix.

SOURCE: Model 78182891 Coldspot with excessive water Collecting in Refrig

Most likely whats happening is you have a frozen drain for the defrost cycle. here are step by step instrutions for repair:

  • Unplug refrigerator
  • unload food from freezer
  • remove icemaker if present (there are 3 screws remove the one on the bottom and loosen the 2 on top of icemaker then lift it off the 2 screws unplug from wiring harness)
  • remove 2 screws holding rear cover in place
  • move cover to the side or remove from unit altogether
  • defrost any and all ice from bottom of freezer and aluminum drain pan that is now exposed
  • flush drain hole that you will see once ice is cleared with warm water. (sometimes I use a large syringe or turkey baster to forcefully flush hot water thru the drain tube)
  • reassemble in reverse order
Post bak if you have any questions and I'll gladly help you out Thanks Peyton

Your Kenmore freezer is made by Gibson (Frigidaire) Your model number for your freezer is 253.24092102 I believe the problem is a defective 216979700 Main Control Board Look over the 216979700 Main Control Board for signs of burn marks or heat damage. Sometimes you can see damage but not always.I need you to do a few things when you see the freezer defrosting like this. Feel the top of the compressor and see if it is becoming extreemly hot while it stops freezing and begins to melt the ice in the freezer. Here is a photo of the=> 25324092102-Compressor-Components Should your freezer compressor location number 29 in that photo be getting hot it could be a defective 216649315 Relay and Overload Kit location number 30 in that photo is the 216649315 Relay and Overload Kit Location number 55 in that photo is the 5304464438 Run Capacitor If the motherboard looks OK but the compressor is getting hot and trying to start and stop (short cycling) I would begin by first changing the 216649315 Relay and Overload Kit and the 5304464438 Run Capacitor If you could respond by answering my post I believe I will be able to help you solve this. I am here should you respond, Thanks Sea Breeze

I would like to download a manual for Krnmore freezer 253. I tried to defrost, water came out of the bottom, not the designated spot. Jackie

The defrost drain is clogged in your Kenmore freezer .Due to this water is coming out of bottom.-------- The drain hole needs to be cleared.--------You can pour hot water to melt ice around drain . To see where the drain hole is located, and to get the manual, click the link below:--- http://technoanswers.blogspot.com/2011/08/kenmore-freezer-253-nor-draining-water.html ----------- This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Its not getting cold

MAKE SURE THE FANS ARE RUNNING FREEZER AND COMPRESSOR, THEN CHECK THE BACK WALL OF THE FREEZER IF ITS FROSTED UP YOU HAVE A DEFROST ISSUE. IF THE COMPRESSOR AND FANS ARE WORKING AND NO FROST IN THE FREEZER THATS NOT A GOOD THING..

Water leaking from back right side

look at the back of the refrigerator , you will notice a hose that goes down on a try above the motor compressor, try to clean it or inserting a very tin long object that can able to reach the lenght of the hose, this cause a clogging reason for the water after frost to overflow

Kenmore side by side freezer side - freezer side drain overflows & leaks on floor

Unusual problem. Most defrost water drain pans are designed to hold all the water the refrigerator can generate. The water should be evaporated by the compressor heat and heat from the coils. Is the refrigerator cooling adequately? Perhaps there is some problem with the compressor and or compressor fan operation.

You might try finding a larger pan and see if you can get it where the existing pan is located.

Freezer wont freeze and fridge isn't cold enough

Check the refrigerant level, using the systems analyzer.
From the analyzer, you will know if the high and low side of the compressor has the right pressure. If you
don't have the analyzer, then just get the services of
the refrigerator/freezer technician to fix it.

253 55682402 Kenmore Side by Side Refrigerator Not Working. Freezer is not freezing and the fridge part is not cooling properly. Also water to ice maker and instant water in front of door stopped working....

. Cut everything off for a few minutes then turn it back on and listen for a click from the compressor relay as the compressor tries to start.
Is the compressor motor running. If no check starter/overload relay.
Check to see if the condenser fan at the back underneath near the compressor is running. If no check fan.

Are the condenser coils near there warm or room temp. should be warm

Drain pan overflowing, evaporator not working ??

The condensor fan and the heat from the compressor help the evaporation of the condensate. Sears has a complete model number system that is confusing I know. Sears made it that way. Not sure why but look around the cold food door while open and look near bottom on the frame just above the kick plate. The number looks like this, (model No. 253.64802400 for example) Find that number and we can go from there, Thanks, Sea Breeze
