You may be able to use the Windows Vista drivers, as it does not appear that HP offers drivers for Windows XP.

1plug in monitor 2.right click desktop go to properties (on XP) or screen resolution (on 7 or vista) you should see two boxes labeled one and 2 double click 2 that's you monitor...on xp in the properties window go to settings tab to find that option, if it does not show up reset your computer with external monitor plugged in and repeat process if necessary if that doesn't work you need to update driver for your graphics card/chip

On the bottom of the laptop there should be a sticker that has the exact model number of the laptop. It will be something more specific than F700 - I'm afraid that this is only a "family." Here is the link to Compaq's list of models for that laptop. Once you have the model number, just click on it via that link and you should get to the driver download page. Note that if this laptop did not come with XP originally then they might not support XP with all devices.

A workaround to this MIGHT be to read what the model of video card and sound card etc. are for Vista and then search the manufacturer's website in order to find the correct XP driver even if Compaq won't support it. For example, many of the models for that laptop use NVIDIA graphics and chipsets (not a direct link because there's too many to choose from). You can just try installing the NVIDIA unified driver for graphics and chipsets. However, this might break windows to the point of needing another reload if this is not the correct driver (rare but it does happen, esp. with chipset drivers). Another thing to try first is the NVIDIA auto-scan utility to see if they detect you needing NVIDIA drivers.

You have to download XP drivers from the manufacturer's website. This normally happens because your harware was designed for the new OS(Vista).

Just go to hp.com and search for the model of your Laptop.
