Question about Kwikset 907 907-11P Venetian Bronze Smart Code Smart Code Deadbolt with One

I'm using a kwikset smartcode lock. When I follow the directions, holding the lock button while inserting the battery pack, instead of two beeps after a while, I get a beep, then 5 seconds later a long beep. The LED light goes red (not blinking, just stays red) and none of the buttons on the lock work.

I have reviewed the installation instructions for the Kwikset 907-11P; here is a link to it:

I would recommend verifying that the batteries are new and installed correctly. I did not see anything about an insertable/removable battery pack or the need to hold a lock button while changing the batteries. Under normal circumstances there is no need to reprogram the lock codes when batteries are changed.
I did see that if the bolt does not extend when the lock button is pressed that you need to reprogram the handedness of the door (see Step 4.9).
On page 9 of the installation instructions is Troubleshooting tips and a contact number for Kwikset USA :
1-800-327-5625. I'd recommend calling them directly if, after going through the installation instructions, that you have the same problem.

    I'm having the same problem. I changed the batteries, but still have the problem. I tried resetting the codes but some of the buttons on the keypad will not work at all when pressed (some of the buttons beep, but others do not). I called the Kwikset 800 number and described the problem and what I'd done to fix it. They were very courteous and helpful. The rep said it is most likely either a failed keypad (replacement part would be about $20) or a failed electronics board which would cost as much as a whole new unit. They have emailed me instructions for verifying what the problem is.

Need to reverse bolt


Called "handing" the lock (left-hand or right hand door hinges):
Remove the battery pack. Keep the door open.Hold down the "Lock" button on the exterior keypad and at the same time, insert the battery pack into the interior assembly. Keep holding down the lock button until you hear two beeps, which will take approximately 30 seconds. During that time, the Smartcode mechanism will automatically drive in and out several times to determine proper handing.Done!

Kwikset smartcode deadbolt. The lock button unlocks it the code locks it. I followed the handing instructions and tried the bolt in both positions while doing that procedure after the initial problem.


Let's review the programming steps, in case you are overlooking something. This information was found at this link:

Important before proceeding: 1. Verify that position #2 of the "Settings
Switch" is in the OFF position. (Refer to section 11.) 2. Work with the
door open (away from jamb) to avoid accidental lock out. 3. Make sure
the bolt of latch is in the extended (locked) position

8. Automatic - Bolt Direction Determination (Door Handing).
IMPORTANT: DO NOT SKIP THE FOLLOWING STEP.
LOCK WILL NOT BE ABLE TO OPERATE PROPERLY!
? In the steps below, the SmartCode mechanism automatically determines the "door handing" and sets the proper direction for motor to rotate.

a. Press and hold the "LOCK" button on the exterior keypad, while fully inserting the battery pack into the interior assembly (the tabs on the pack must face out)

b. When the unit begins to operate the bolt, release the "LOCK" button.

c. Do not disturb the unit for approximately 20 seconds until the interior Green LED flashes followed by a beep. During this time the system will drive the bolt several times, will determine "door handing", store data in memory and exit. It is very important that this process is allowed to finish properly.

Proceed with programming your Usercodes per the instructions.

Just installed kwikset 909 all worked fine except that I cannot turn the cylinder manually with a key to unlock or lock. it locks and unlocks with the keypad.

Under the Troubleshooting steps at the bottom, you will see this text:

Q: I just completed the installation of a Smart Code unit on my door; I am unable to operate it manually, although I checked for smooth bolt operation during installation. What should I do?
A: You need to run the "Bolt Direction" routine again; allow the process to run to completion see Section 8 in User's Manual.

So please go through the installation instruction's Section 8 again. (Remove the battery pack first.) It is important to follow this procedure very carefully for success!

If you feel that you are following all steps correctly but the lock is still not functioning properly, please contact the Kwikset Customer Support:

The lock is beeping. I put new batteries in and reset the code and it still beeps.

I have a kwickstet smartcode touchpad keyless entry. When I push the lock button it opens and when I do the code it locks?


I have included a link to the installation instructions for the Kwikset 909 lock. I think that if you go through the installation instruction routine carefully, you will solve your problem. Pay particular attention to Step 8, the synchronization routine.

The door locks when you put in the code and unlocks when you push the lock button.


Your problem is likely that the lock is programmed for the "wrong-hand"-left door versus right door installation. Here's a link to the installation instructions; pay close attention to step 8:

The keypad stopped working. I replaced the batteries and it beeps, but the keypad is still not working - random beeps, but when I try to reset there is no response.

I replaced the batteries. After inserting them back into the system, the lock does not operate. I have tried pushing program button 3 times and waiting 10 seconds, nothing. I removed the batteries again...

Brought new keyless dead bolt. Put it in a door that opens in with hinges on right side. The problem is that the motor wants to turn the dead bolt the opposite direction, unlock extends deadbolt,...


My lock adjusted itself automatically... You have to hold the lock button in (on the exterior side) while you insert the battery pack - the deadbolt will cycle in and out, then beep a couple times. You'll be holding button for maybe 10 seconds.
I have to say while this step is included in the instructions in a big red box, it says nothing about why or what its doing, so I imagine many people miss this...

I just install my kwikset finished smart code signiture series touch. But its unlocking when I press the lock button instead of locking. Is there anyway to lock it in the other direction?


You have to take the batteries out then hold down the lock button on the outside of the door and slide the batteries back in wait for a couple seconds..... Let go, push the button on the inside to program your lock code .....enter your lock code and then hit lock button. It should work, coustomer service number is 1-800-327-5652
