Whirlpool Front load washer - wfw9400sw01. Sounds very loud during the spin cycle. Suspect a bearing issue. I have pulled the back plate off. Pulley, belt, shocks and motor all appear to be fine. What I have read so far indicates a complete tear down to get to the bearing. It also appears this bearing is part of an expensive sub-assembly...is this correct? Am I on the right track? Any way to replace just the bearing? Any other advice/direction? Are service manuals available? Thanks.

A loud rumble noise during the spin cycle is a good indication that the bearings have failed. The bearings are located in the rear outer tub. See link http://www.appliancepartspros.com/part_details.aspx?part_id=4426951 There are actually two bearings an inner and an outer bearing plus a seal. Water must have leaked past the seal causing the inner bearings to corrode. Once they start to rust, it just gets louder and louder. You are correct that Whirlpool does not sell the bearings and seal separately, but you must buy a new rear outer tub currently the price is over $400.

I had it happen to a different brand of front load washer and was faced to either, replace the rear outer tub, junk it or figure out how to replace the seal and bearing. I opted for the last and did some research on finding replacement bearings and seals. I had to tear the washer apart to get the bearings, then pound out the old ones to replace with new ones. It been working find for the last 2.5 year so far.

I found a website that might help you locate bearings and seals for your machine. http://www.hometask.com/washerrepair.aspx The site has a video on how to tear down your machine and shows you how to remove and replace the bearings. He might have the ones that you need on his site. Hope this helps you.

Testimonial: "Excellent feed back! Not were the required repairs confirmed, but a cost effective option was also shared! Thank you!"

I pulled the unit down...you were right on. The seal failed and then the bearing. Now my challenge is to find replacement seal and bearings for this machine. Thanks again.

Loud Bearing Noise During Spin Cycle- MAH4000AWW

I don't know these front loaders so well but, here's a couple of things to look for.
1) If belt driven, look for the spring loaded tensioner. Once tension is released, check the pully & see if it has excessive play.
2) Check the gasket on front panel & see if drum has rubbed thru it in order to make metal to metal contact.
3) There is alot of pressure on that rear bearing...make sure it's not egg shaped or scored on the inside.

If all else fails, shotgun it (in other words, replace those moving parts you suspect:)

Whirlpool washer WTW6400SW very loud spin cycle, sounds like airplane taking off

Most likely it is the spin tube bearing worn. Reguires some know how and special tools. Requires a major dismantle of the machine and usally I did these repairs in the shop. Bearing will eventually sieze over use and time. Labor will probably exceed the value of the machine.

Washing machine making loud roaring sound during spin cycle

Very likely the main bearing and drum shaft-inner tub will need replace. Not worth repairing, easily can cost more than the washer. Buy a new whirlpool front load duet, super capacity or the top load whirlpool with and agitator. Good Luck, Appliance Specialists

Very loud rumbling noise during spinning

Most noises from a washing machine occur during the spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary. This will solve your problem.

During the final spin cycle, our front loading whirlpool is making a really loud noise - it sounds like a train is going through the house. It is in the basement on a concrete floor.

If the washer is brand new, look on the back panel and make sure the 4 transportation bolts have been removed. The bolts should be roemoved completely - they are only necessary to protect the washer during transportation.

If the bolts are removed, adjust the front two legs to be 1/4 inch higher than the back two. That 1/4 inch will balance the washer during the spin cycle, perfectly.

Loud grinding noise only during the spin cycle.

Try looking at the solution for loud noise during spin with gray water in drain. This also sounds like the bearings on the shaft supporting the stainless steel drum, in the aft half of the outer drum.

Very loud washer during spin cycle

it will be your bearings not the belt or pulle you can check this out by having it empty open the door place the palm of your hand on the outside were the top of the door closers to place your fingers ti the inside of the top of inner drum and pull your fingers towards your palm if there is the slightist movement than the bearings need replacing
