Janson; does this problem only occur if you're doing copying via the auto feeder, or also if you lay the paper in manually? The auto feeder uses a small glass opening to the front (or left) of the main flatbed scan area; if there is an issue with that area letting in light, an all black page would result. If you get all black with either type of scan, but regular printing still works, then you may have a dead scan element. Try scanning something to your computer or to an email account to see if normal scanning still works.
The best way to email any document from any printer is to have a scanning program that can scan from your printer/scan/copy machine. If your printer only has printing capabilites then it is impossible to capture the printed document back to your laptop.
The first step is to check to see if your Xerox copy machine is a model that includes printing/scanning/copying capabilites.
If it does, then install the scanning program.
Once installed, scan your document, save it to a place you remember on you laptop, then email it using your favorite email program, such as hotmail or yahoo.
I assume you want a printed page of your email. If this is so, look for the PRINT button and print the page. In Outlook, it is the icon of the printer in the upper left of the screen. Otherwise, open FILE and look for PRINT.
If it is only causing an image problem when you copy and not when you print, then there is something wrong with the optics under the glass. Check and see if you have any mirrors out of place or if the scanner looks crooked. If you have the machine set up to scan try and scan to SMB or email to see if it still has the problem. If everything looks correct under the glass and scans to SMB and email look bad like the copies, you may have a bad CCD assembly, or a bad board.
Error message? Just put something on the scanner glass and press the print button in the printer itself, leave the computer alone. Did it work? if so... there's something wrong with the HP software, re-install. That machine takes copies without the computer on, so, it should work.
Click Start, choose printers and faxes, choose scanners and cameras, right click WIA Canon MP970, click properties, choose events tab, choose select an event, scroll to "attach to email".
In your case, the scanner light is not lit during the scan or copy. If you print something from the pc, it would print just fine. Try to powercycle the printer, then try copying again. If it persist, scanner is defective but you may still use it to print from pc.
You need sofrware that captures the scan from the scanner. usually comes with the printer, you have to opemn the program and tell it to scan and save.
Scanning by just placing a paper on the scanner and pressing the scan button just tells the printer to scan and probably print a copy, but it doesnt send it to the computer unless theres a program asking for it. Check the installation cd and go through the software that came with it.
