Maytag side by side slowly getting warmer

My Maytag mod. MSD2656dew has stopped cooling everywhere but started with the refrigerator side, then the upper freezer. Now the lower freezer is at 35degs. The fan inside sounds like it's working but I don't feel much air flow. The fan by the compressor is running, but the compressor only runs for 5 or ten sec. at the most, then clicks off. It does this several times every couple of minutes after it's first turned on, then stops. The compressor is warm, but not hot.I dont see any ice in the vents either, but have not removed any internal covers. It does seem to be making ice, but very slowly. This problem started after the refrig. door was left partially open several times due to a shelf in the door hanging up. EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM, FRIDEGE STARTED COOLING OFF TWO DAYS AGO, THEN THE FREEZER EARLY YESTERDAY, AND TODAY, THE FREEZER IS DRIPPING. I JUST BOUGHT IT USED AND TURNED IT ON LAST FRIDAY (ONE WEEK AGO), AFTER LETTING IT SIT FOR 10 HOURS. I DON'T HAVE A MANUAL, BUT THE MODEL IS A MSD 2656DEW - "MAYTAGE PLUS"... THE SERIAL NUMBER IS 12584578YK. I WAS TOLD THE FRIDGE WAS 1.5 YEARS OLD. THE FRIDGE WAS WORKING FOR THREE DAYS, THEN BEGAN GETTING WARMER... NOTE!!!! I DO NOT HAVE WATER GOING IN TO THE FRIDGE. I CAN SEE THAT THE HOSES (THINK CLEAR PLASTIC) ARE GOING BACK UNDER THE FRIDGE. I DON'T HAVE A MANUAL TO LOOK AT EITHER. ANY HELP IS MUCH APPRECIATED. THANKS!

I have actually been having the same problem. We have a Maytag MTB2156GEQ and it hasn't been cooling well at all lately. Temp in the fridge is about 52 degrees even on the highest setting. The freezer seems to be fine. I pulled off the back panel and vacuumed out the condensor coil and everything else under there. I then pulled out the control panel on the ceiling of the fridge. The channel between the freezer and fridge was almost completely blocked with ice. I cleaned it out by taking out the back panel of the freezer and pouring hot water down through the hole until it was clear.
that seem fix the issue.

The fan in this refrigerator should always run when the compressor is
running. The fan in the freezer section is called the evaporator fan
motor.if the evap fan motor doesn't run, The upper sections of the
freezer will also be warmer than the lower sections. Depending on the
age of the unit, it's probably a small, white body Panasonic fan motor.
This fan motor has not proven itself to be worth the plastic it's made
of. It is probably not a connection problem, rather a bad fan motor. At
this point, you have one of two options: 1) go to a local appliance
service depot and ask for Maytag Genuine Parts part number 61005339; I
charge $90.00 for this motor, so you should expect about that much. 2)
go to an appliance repair depot that has a local Johnstone supply
account and ask for part number S58-099: I charge 36.00 for this motor.
This is the motor I use regularly. If you use the Johnstone motor, you
have to reverse the rotor so the shaft rotates the same way as the
original, which is a very simple operation. The Johnstone motor won't
have the exact connections as the original, but I always try to connect
the new motor leads in such a way as to not cut off any factory harness
connectors, whenever possible. If you use wire nuts or bell terminals,
it is best to fill the connector with silicone after you crimp it to
keep moisture out of your connection.

My maytag refrigerator started making a buzzing noise every time it goes on. it lasts about 5 seconds then clicks off. any idea what it is?

I have the same problem. It is ice buildup around the evaporator fan that begins as a buzzing (the fan blades hitting the advancing "glacier"), which ultimately stops the fan and then the freezer/fridge stop cooling. Just pull the lower sheet metal from the inside rear of the freezer (need to remove some screws from upper sheet also) and chip the ice away. I've got a question in to Maytag now to see how to prevent this from recurring. I've had to take the thing apart 3 times in 2 years.

After they replaced the part did they defrost the unit. there is probably ice build up on the coil behind the service panel in the freezer compartment. If the defrost control was the part replaced you can probably push the refrigerator side light switch in and out 5-6 times and force a defrost. if the unit goes into defrost then all the components are fine and you just need to manually defrost the coil either by off loading all food and leaving the unit off for 4-6 hours with doors open. of offloading freezer side remove rear access cover in freezer exosing evaporator coils and use a hairdryer to defrost the ice accumulation. good luck Peyton

Maytag side by side slowly getting warmer

I have a Maytag msd2422gr side-by-side that has gradually stopped cooling 2 or 3 times.  The solution is cheap and easy: Your unit isn't cooling because the space in which the fan is housed is so full of ice you are getting no cold air circulation. The compressor and everything else is functioning, but the cold that is being produced is blocked by ice. All you need to do is to unplug the unit and entirely unload the freezer. Locate a panel with vent slots on the back wall of the freezer compartment that covers the fan. It is held on by about 4 screws. Lift out the panel and behold the glacier of ice covering the coils. You might want to use a hair dryer or space heater to hasten the melting, but I would warn against trying to chip or break it out because you will probably ruin or puncture an important part. Once all the ice is gone, reassemble and plug it back in. As I recall, it takes a few minutes for the compressor to get going again, but be patient because, if there was ice, that was your problem and if it is now gone, that is your solution. It can't help but work. And from now on, you know to be careful not over-load and block those vent slots in the back of your freezer.  If all else fails go here and get great, free help and every part you could possibly need:
