That's a new one on me! Rotary timers are considered the Most reliable. Bought one in 1985. Put it in the barn ages ago, still working.
I think I would look the maker up, online, and ask them. Cleaning the timer dial Thoroughly, might work. With something like vinegar and baking soda. Or any kitchen cleaner. Even a can of air, to blow out dust and gunk. Good luck!
try unplugging it for about 15 minutes. if that doesnt work, you might as well get a new one. i fix everything myself for just the cost of parts and i have found that what parts cost for a microwaves, its cheaper just to buy a new one.
Never run the microwave without a load (something to heat)!!! That kills the microwave generating parts.
Sounds like a 'thermal' protect switch is activating after running. Make sure that (if the unit is mounted in a cabinet) that there is sufficient space around the unit for proper air flow and that nothing is blocking the vents. Try setting it on a counter top and heat something. If it works properly and doesn't shut off, the venting space is the problem. You may have to have the cabinet that it sits in redesigned for more clearance.
