Question about Vizio M220MV 22 in. HD-Ready LCD TV

1 Answer

We have the M220MV. Cannot change channels using the numeric keypad on the remote. I know it should be possible, the manual says you can change channels this way. If not, the last channel button would be of no use. We are using an antenna for the input and have updated the firmware form the Vizio website. Any ideas?

Your HDTV has a built-in setup App that runs when you turn on your TV for the first time. Follow
the on-screen directions to easily 1. Insert the batteries into the remote control.
    2. Connect the AC/DC power adapter to the power connector on the back of your HDTV,
and then plug into a wall outlet.
    3. Connect your devices to your HDTV (see Chapter 2 for detailed steps).
    4. Turn on your TV. The Setup App will automatically play and guide your thru the initial
setup of your HDTV. Use the Arrow and OK buttons to navigate through the setup App.
During the setup process you will:setup your new HDTV. Choose your Menu language. Set the TV to Home Mode for the best picture and most efficient energy
usage. Set your Time Zone and Daylight Savings preferences. Add your TV channels (unless you have a Cable/Satellite Set-Top Box).

Unplug your TV vrom AC mains wall socket, and wait for atleast 30 minutes and do the Factory settings proceedings.

I did do the factory reset after unplugging and waiting several hours, and ran through the setup and channel scan again.(I'm not unfamiliar with the setup process, the TV works fine, great picture quality, lots of channels, just this one thing that does not work like it seems it should). The problem was not solved. We have another Vizio, so I tried that remote on our new TV, and it was able to do everything that the remote from the new TV did, but would also not change channels with the numbers keypad, but only with the up and down channel changer button, so the problem has to be something with the TV itself. Maybe it's just defective, unless there is something else I should check into. Haven't found anything in the menu that would even hint at changing how the channels are selected. Any other ideas? Thanks.

If Up and Down button on the remote control works well, and not digital buttons, the remote sensor that fitted inside the TVs front panel should be checked. If its sensitivity to infrared rays is less this type of fault will occur. Digital button infrared signals have a narrow bandwidth that the other Up/Down/Forward/Backward button signals. OK.

I've reviewed your post, carl_heflin, and would be happy to help with that! Below are just a few steps for you to go through to get that accomplished.
  1. Go to System Info screen.
  2. Hold down the SAT button until all mode lights light up.
  3. Enter a number between 1 and 15 using the numeric keypad on the remote.
  4. Press the pound (#) button.
  5. Once the SAT button blinks three times, press record. Note: If successful, the number selected in step 3 will appear in the System Info screen under Remote Address.

If you have any questions, just let me know and I'll look forward to speaking with you!

Hey Ryno4606,

It is possible, while rare, for a remote to no longer be programmed to the receiver after a reset. To fix that a simple readdress should fix the problem. I have provided the steps below to assist you with that!

Addressing Remote to Receiver:

1.) Go to System Info screen.
2.) Hold down the SAT button until all mode lights light up.
3.) Enter a number between 1 and 15 using the numeric keypad on the remote.
4.) Press the pound (#) button.
5.) Once the SAT button blinks three times, press record.
6.) Test remote and see if works.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

My remote doesn't work, it won't change the channels

It sounds like the remote would need to be address to the receiver. This needs to be done from the main TV location, and I have listed the steps below!

Hope that helps!

MY dish remote is installed with the dish receiver. My dish remote though is not changing the channels. I already changed the batteries and it turned out to not be that. So what do I do?

Tierra_bush,

It's possible the remote may just need to be readdressed to the receiver. I've listed the steps below:

Addressing remote
1.) Go to System Info screen.
2.) Hold down the SAT button until all mode lights light up.
3.) Enter a number between 1 and 15 using the numeric keypad on the remote.
4.) Press the pound (#) button.
5.) Once the SAT button blinks three times, press record.
6.) Try the remote and see if it is working.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Echostar remote changes channels slow and changes guide without touching remote

Hi there, Cheri Torres with DISH Network Customer Service here. It sounds like you could possibly be experiencing UHF interference. UHF interference could possibly be caused by someone in your area with the same remote frequency as you or possibly by other electronic equipment in your home. The best way to fix this issue is by changing the remote address on for the remote with the issue. I will list here for you the instructions for readdressing your remote. I hope you find this information useful and if you have any further questions feel free to email me directly at [email protected] or respond here and I would be happy to help!

Instructions for readdressing remote
  1. If you are using TV1 remote stay at the receiver location if you are using TV2 remote take that remote to the TV1 location where the receiver box is.
  2. Go to System Info screen. You can do this by pressing the system info button on the front of the receiver box or by pressing the power button once then pressing the channel up button once on the front of your receiver.
  3. Once you are in the system info screen you will see primary remote address (TV1) and secondary remote address (TV2).
  4. Hold down the SAT button until all mode lights light up.
  5. Enter a number between 1 and 15 using the numeric keypad on the remote.Change the number in the little white square to something than what is already listed.
  6. Press the pound (#) button
  7. Once the SAT button blinks three times, press record. Note: If successful the number selected in step 5 will appear in the System Info screen under Remote Address.

I have a rca dvd recorder+vcr combo drc8320n i want to set up watching/changing cabletv channels on the dvd remote. i have tried buying universal remotes cheap& expensive but they no longer work on my

With cable input connected to "RF in"on rear of unit make sure vidoe input is set to "Tuner". This will show up on the TV screen. Change channels numerically or using up/down arrow keys on DVR remote. Note there is a slight pause between changing channels. You probably will have to "autoscan" for channel setup/etc. If you say your TV set is old; it probabaly is equiped with coax
connection only/set TV channel to "3" or "4". when yot opt to play vcr/dvd it will override your
cable channel selected. Hope this helps!

I had the same problem, what fixed it for me was to set auto scan to setup all the channels for me again. Another thing to check would be whether it is set up to use CATV or AIR.
